Burger Thread. Yes!

Got burgers for dinner tonight  only frozen quarter pounders but that suits the mood today.

Picked up some fresh soft white rolls (not baps today) for them as I like the roll to fit the burger. I I had been making my own it would have been soft white flowery baps.

Usually just lightly toast the inside of the rolls/baps just to keep the burger grease in check. Not a fan of 'toasted' or 'crusty' rolls with a burger. Also brioche can fuck off, toasted or otherwise

If you like a MacD's burger I have a nice and easy home recipe. For 1 burger: about 50g of slightly seasoned minced beef rolled in your hands. Flatten into a burger shape using your hand. I usually make 10 from a 500g pack of minced beef. Put in the fridge to cool for an hour or 2. Using a dry frying pan, lightly toast the burger bun for a little while then cook the burger for 90 seconds each side over a medium/highish heat. While the burger is cooking, put 5 blobs of tomato ketchup on the lid of the bun like you would see on a dice. Put a blob of American mustard in the gaps between ketchup blobs. Put a bit of diced onion over the ketchup and mustard. Put a slice of processed cheese over the onion and ketchup. Put the cooked burger on the cheese, then the bottom of he burger bun. Wrap in foil and put in a slightly warm oven for 5 minutes. Delicious if you like that sort of thing.

I usually make a choc shake with it too. Ice cream, milk and a few spoons of Nesquik in the blender.

I love a really good burger but a MacD's is a guilty pleasure. A homemade MacD's takes away some guilt!

A pal shared a contraption he uses on his bbq that keeps his homemade burgers round and full. Hope I can get round there this summer, damn virus stopping the sharing of burger.

My MacD's burger recipe is from a book called The Takeaway Secret by Kenny McGovern and it's excellent. I've adapted some to be a bit more Slimming World friendly as that's how we roll in this house but still good.

I'm a big fan of recreating takeaway favourites at home - it started when I developed a peanut allergy and I have to be a bit thoughtful about where to get takeaways - I absolutely love Chinese food and my local Chinese takeaway say they don't use groundnut oil but I know they make satay sauce and use peanuts in some dishes that they make in the kitchen so I started to make my own versions of my favourite dishes at home - this has been going on for a number of years now.

I keep meaning to buy one. Although it would need to be a decent size. Some of the ones I've looked at seem to make tiny burgers.

God knows why you'd want to recreat McDonalds though. I mean it does a job of being cheapish, readily available and fast, but it's not exactly a quality burger.

I've had a quick look. It's a minefield! One can pay £50 for one. Then there are those that do more than one. I suspect I have a pleasant weekend ahead of me researching the best/best value press :D

I didn't know burger presses are a 'thing'

I now have an urgent need for them! Thanks!
Got my plastic one for about 50p at a charity shop years ago. Think it was new (from the back of a cupboard) as boxed with a load of greaseproof circles. They are not really necessary but good for storing homemade burgers in fridge or freezer.

Broke the plastic one and got a metal replacement a year ago. Works well as is but I spray a bit of Fry Light on before pressing the burger to make it easier. Think it was about £6-7 from Dunelm.

Weschenfelder are the Rolls Royce of sausage and burger kit but expensive. I only have burgers once a month ish these days so £50 is a bit rich :D

I believe I have perfected Chinese takeaway style fried rice and it's not difficult at all. I could eat it every day.

Big Mac. Strawberry milkshake on the side. Comfort food, the equivalent of your Mums roast dinner but quicker and more comforting :p I still take the kids to eat it if I'm ever feeling miserable and it NEVER FAILS

I like the beige sauce with little cubed bits best.

Yup, BM meals with a milkshake of your choice (I usually go for chocolate) is definitely good for food dopamine hits.

Apologies if this has been covered but has anyone tried M&S "Best Ever Burger"? It's supposed to be their best ever burger, presumably, but I presume it also has shortcomings.

Can't go shopping to try it due to shielding, but Ocado will stock them from September.

When it's been 4 months since you last had a burger that you didn't make yourself, and the lockdown has finally been lifted. You're salivating at the thought of a big, juicy burger, so you jump in the car and drive into town for a mouth-watering 7.5 oz burger.

You queue for twenty minutes, respecting social distancing, then finally it's your turn to order. You order your meal, and wait patiently in the waiting area, knowing that this succulent burger is going to make it all worthwhile. Fifteen minutes later it finally arrives, and you sit and unwrap the parcel of meaty goodness you've waited oh so long to enjoy! And this is what you find... :(
