Brrrr! Who's got the heating on?

Have you put the heating on?

My flat used to be like that, and I'd have ice inside my windows in the winter :(
God yeah - the days before double glazing and central heating, scraping ice off the inside of the windows. We had that in the house I grew up in the the 70s, but thankfully the one in the 80s had heating - luxury! A few houses/flats since without it though.

I still don't have double glazing and I can see my curtains blowing when it gets windy. Can't even sit on that side of living room as it gets too cold

Cripes it must still be very mild here in Northampton then, hasn't even been a frost yet outside..................are you all living at the North Pole ?

:p:D

I do have dg, but I can see the blinds undulating when it's blowing a gale out. They don't appear to be well-sealed, but it's better than living in a hermetically sealed boxes. :)

You're in the Midlands though, so you benefit from continentality. In the NW we are a bit warmer and wetter, but get hit by the prevailing winds, whereas in the NE it's freezing and desolate. Poor neonwilderness has to have his heating on year round. :(

I have. Boiler seems to have a fault though and keeps needing a reset, which is getting old really fast.

It's costing me a fortune in coal

Heating went on this week for the first time since April

Yeah. It was like that when I was a kid. I've got that clingfilmy double glazing on most of the windows in the living room which makes a massive difference. Unfortunately, my daughter has put a big hole in two of the peices (typically in the last week and it's been up 2 years!) I'm pretty sure I bought some more last year so I will go hunting in the garage tomorrow.

The joys of living in an old victorian house... big windows, high ceilings, floorboards or stone floor. If only the landlord would sort the chimneys out. I went to put the bins out earlier and it was warmer outside than in!

We were meant to get all the windows in our flat replaced before the weather changed. For various reasons this didn't happen. The flat is freezing. I feel like we're just heating the outside bloody world when we've got the heating on. I've had a hot chocolate instead.

Electric blanket , heating and probably thermals this weekend ....definitely getting gloves out for autumnal walks.

I bought some of that, along with double sided tape. The tape was a nightmare to remove. Which reminds me, I should try that Stick Stuff remover to get rid of the gooey bits, although probably a bit late now :D

The house is freezing all the time, but the heating makes it marginally less cold so we have had it on plenty. I can tell it's getting cold as my sinuses have kicked into gear and are really, really sore.

At work I think we've got a bit over zealous; a plumber came and fixed the broken radiator so we have two working radiators plus three mini oil filled ones on the go as well most of the time. I really like the heat but even I have to say it is a bit bloody warm. It gets freezing without it though, so it's hard to strike a balance.

I received a refund of £117 last month when my fixed deal came to an end. I had no idea I was due a refund. Last year the same as this year no central heating for 6 months though I'm on target for 7 months. So far I'm ok in the mornings which I know will change although on work days I just suffer it as I'm up and out within 45 mins.

It is warmer in my fridge than in the rest of the kitchen, but then the fridge is fucked!! :(

The rest of the house is pretty chilly at the moment, perhaps I should sleep in the fridge!

Put it on yesterday but that was partially that it was so fucking we needed to dry ourselves!

Plus I was cold at work. Cold on the train. Cold outside. And I didn't want to be cold at home!

put the heating on as soon as I get up in the morning and turn it off when leaving for work. Don't turn it on again for the rest of the day. Helps keep the utility bill down to £37pm gas and electric

We get ice on the inside of our windows in the winter even with the heating on and double glazing. :D I'm actually a bit worried about how my basil plant will survive next to the window once it's really cold.

We don't have the heating on because Heating On Day hasn't arrived yet. I think it's the first week of November.

I was a bit worried the other day about the flat getting damp as it's too cold to open the windows, but there are so many ill fitting windows and doors that we're probably getting more than enough air circulation just from the drafts.

I've got awkward aluminium single glazing, and no matter what I do, I get problems.
A plastic curtain caused mold and plaster damage.
I thought i would have rid of them this winter but not managed to save up enough money.
Heating went on first time on sunday, couldn't get warm, no heating on today, cos it seems warmer.

It's thankfully warmed up quite a bit - but the moderate westerly wind meant I was cycling into drizzle on the way home so I'm using a 1KW fan heater to dry the front of my shorts.
Though oddly the thermometer says it's only 13 degrees in here. :hmm:

my place is warm and all i need to do is cook something in the oven for half an hour and its toasty all over! Unfortunately my lodgers keep putting the heating on while I'm out and since they pay the Gas bill (they insisted) I can't complain!

I've set the thermostat to 15, and it's come on a few times. It's not going higher till I can see my breath in the kitchen.

Fucking aces. After living in a dark, damp and cold flat for the last 3.5 years I have just moved into a new flat built a few years ago. Currently I have the windows open.
