Brown's speech

Challenge of change - new model for economy, for responsible blah blah...my labrador's just fallen asleep :D

He made a good start, listing the things New Labour has achieved in its 12 years ..

It went down well.

So if Harriet Harmon is working to exclude the BNP from national politics, why is it Straw who is going onto question time?

Every benefit will rise, more money, but we will keep spending down and halve the deficit...

16-17 year olds who get pregnant and who would get support / finance from the state to be placed in care homes...

What the fuck?

The Guardian confirm he said this:

3.06pm:

By reforming tax reliefs, free childcare will be available to poor families with children aged two, the PM says.

There's a big announcement on teenage pregnancies. Teenagers on benefits will go into some network of supervised homes.

We'll have to see the detail, but this sounds like a radical - and potentially quite draconian - policy. Even Iain Duncan Smith has not advocated this.

Now Brown's talking about families who "let their kids run riot". He says family intervention projects work.

Starting now, the 50,000 "most chaotic" families will be part of a project of this kind, with "clear rules and clear punishments" if they do not stick to them.

Now he is going on about "action squads", though the description sounded like SNT teams.

No complusory ID cards for British citizens in the next Parliament.... so not getting rid of them then.
