British Sausage Week - 26th October to 1st November

I got 6 nice sausages from Morrisons today. I expect I will make either sos/mash/beans or casserole... But then toad in the hole could be a good shout, with proper onion gravy. Hmmm decisions

Anyone got an online recipe for saus casserole they can link. Been a while since I made one

Anyone got any sausage recommendations? Since Biggles closed I've struggled to find a truly great sausage and find most of the generally available offerings either too dry, underseasoned, or both. A local butcher does a decent Cumberland but I'm extemely particular about the sausages I nosh so I've had little variation for quite a while.
Is there a farmers market nearby? I get some good ones at mine, also the shop they have nearby. Sodding wholefoods markets have them. At a shove Duchy are ok. What is your zone? Do you want to trek to London for them? If so:

I’ll be making a batch of this later in the week
I'm making this tonight with veggie sausages and no bacon.

I want to add some wine, but if I do, I know I'll drink the rest of the bottle and I've got a busy day at work tomorrow.

I had the last of my sausage stew today. Polish sausage, onion, carrot, potato and lot and lots of cabbage, along with various herbs and spices. bloody yummy.
How did you do this? Did you cook the sausage then add the veg, or all in at once?

Ive just made another batch thats equally nice, altho ive used chorizo so slightly different.

Sweat the onions and add chopped sausage. gently fry til the sausage gives up some of its oil and fat. add carrots along with chilli flakes and paprika. then add chopped potatoes and a couple of pints of stock, and half a savoy cabbage roughly chopped. than after half hr add a tin or two of mixed beans.

I suspected as much. But what sort of 'Polish sausage' did you use in the original which whetted my appetite?

That was one I Googled after I posted. Have you made it before? I like HB recipes that I've made before

Really good recipe, that.

I didn't know it was British Sausage Week (fnar). I have to go into work later so might stop at the butcher on the way home and get some really good bangers. Perhaps sausages, chips and homemade barbecue-style beans later.

Heap's in Greenwich do some excellent sausages. I used to love their cafe, back in the days when it was Nevada Street Deli. Was a nice place to read and drink coffee and watch the world go by, and make eyes at Chris the waiter.

It’s a thirty mile round trip but I’m going for it. The local butcher were we used to live makes his own Lincolnshire Sausage, it is divine. Perfect size and spicing. He regularly wins awards for them and many local pubs and restaurants use them. Will give full report.
Find out if he sells online please mate.
