British and Irish Lions 2017

Well I was seeing Cips name increasingly mentioned (so that's a 75 pointer) but Saturday should have put paid to that particular discussion

Good spot and 75 well-deserved points.

I don't know if it's me but the completely batshit pundits' Lions picks have been fairly muted this year. Maybe things are going to ramp up now with two weeks to go.

Mate of mine knows some of Warburton's close circle of friends. Sam has, apparently, been offered and accepted the captaincy.

What do people think? I reckon it's a decent call - he's nailed on for the 7 shirt and will represent the Lions well to the public and media. No doubt there will be other appointed leaders on the pitch as well as him but as the face of the tour and a player in rich form he works well.

shit call imho.

Safe pair of hands. Before the 6N I would have said AWJ but there was a touch of the Robshaw about his captaincy on the odd occasion.

Can I get another 75 points for todays mentions in the Granuaid and Torygraph for Wade (though I'd love to see him go)

Rumours on the Beeb website suggesting that Launchbury and Joseph won't be travelling and that Davies is the preferred 13. If that's the case it's a batshit decision and will cause a ton of media strife before the whole show gets on the road.

A joke if true. I've also heard that Ben Te'o might be in the frame? Jiffy has been gash all season would be mad if he made it.

Gatland is the plague.

Roberts in as well, apparently. Think Gatland is channeling '05 Woodward.

English press already sharpening knives - gently atm, admittedly. They've kinda got a point if true.

Here we go

Backs: Dan Biggar, Elliot Daly, Jonathan Davies, Owen Farrell, Lee Halfpenny, Robbie Henshaw, Stuart Hogg, Jonathan Joseph, Conor Murray, George North, Jack Nowell, Jared Payne, Jonathan Sexton, Tommy Seymour, Ben T’eo, Anthony Watson, Rhys Webb, Liam Williams, Ben Youngs

And the forwards.
Rory Best, Dan Cole, Taulupe Faletau, Tadhg Furlong, Jamie George, Iain Henderson, Maro Itoje, Alun Wyn Jones, George Kruis, Courtney Lawes, Joe Marler, Jack McGrath, Ross Moriarty, Sean O’Brien, Peter O’Mahony, Ken Owens, Kyle Sinckler, CJ Stander, Justin Tipuric, Mako Vunipola, Billy Vunipola, Sam Warburton (captain).

Country breakdown (spot who's procrastinating)

England - 16 (7 backs, 9 forwards)
Wales - 12 (6 backs, 6 forwards)
Ireland - 11 (4 backs, 7 forwards)
Scotland - 2 (2 backs, 0 forwards)

some interesting Welsh selections, especially amoungst the backs

edit: see, I can do diplomacy!

Moriarty, Biggar and J. Davies are, I think, the controversial selections. The first two are blatant dirt trackers who don't mind the rough and tumble and physicality. Davies is probably the second best 13 available, which says more about our paucity of options there than it does about bias.

A genuine question - really not trying to troll - which Scottish players would you have had in and in place of whom?
This.

Scotland as a team were much improved this year, but which stand out individuals could have played Warrenball for Lions?

At least one of the Gray bros for Henderson/Kruis/Lawes. Finn Russell for Biggar. Visser for Nowell. Hamish Watson for any Welsh/Irish flanker.

Eta That was done in a hurry :)
