General British Results & Nattering Innit

My martial arts doing mate says Taekwondo is probably the least effective one for use in an actual fight but he tends to say stuff like that to be controversial :hmm:
P'raps, but arguably still more effective than anything I might offer! :D

Also, as we're always told, martial arts aren't about fighting :hmm: ;)

I was watching and thinking that I could have done it (twenty/thirty years ago). It’s as much about avoiding being hit as actually hitting anyone, no one seemed to get that much power behind their kicks or punches it’s all about the flexibility and speed.

I would be inclined to agree. It discourages a guard, under utilises the hard-parts of your body (shins, knees, elbows), and tends to be a series of non-committed kicks.

Murray and Salisbury out of the men's doubles :(

I sort of get it given the tight turnaround, but somewhat frustrating that at 1-1 the match is decided by another tiebreak; could really favour the team with momentum, as I imagine it did in this match as it directly followed Croatia winning the 2nd set tie break.

Really depressing that the most successful GB woman olympian is a horse cunter-abouter. But then I guess you can keep cunting about on horses forever, unlike disciplines which require actual input of physical effort of some kind.

That record will get smashed in due time if they let snooker in.

I really haven't figured out how to watch these games. It seems you either stay up half the night, or you get to hear every result theh momemt you wake up..

I wonder what time the athletics is showing local time.

Still think Laura Kenny is the most successful female Olympian. Four golds to Dujardin's three, and she's got the chance of more at these games.

Um, GBR women are three converted tries to the good against the All Blacks :hmm:

Also come from three All Black mistakes.

Oh, except one of theirs just blitzed past our whole team to get a try back. Bugger.

Gold women's BMX race, silver men's. Beth Shriever apparently had to crowdfund to get there...
Great result for them two, BMX is a pretty fun watch (not that I got up to watch it this time... :D).

Funding is already a talking point after our worse than expected results in rowing, and one of our men's rugby 7s players (apologies, forget who) brought up their contract situation (article from this time last year) in the aftermath of their Olympic run.

Meanwhile, GBR a goal down to Australia in the women's football. We managed to hit the post twice in the same move  Five minutes of the first half left to go.

Anyone watch that last semi final of the 100m on BBC1? Outrageous commentary, completely obsessed with Asher-Smith who wasn't even running, so they missed the heroic effort by Neita "the other Brit" who qualified.

That's some of the worst commentary I've ever seen. They paid her no attention until a good 2 minutes after the race had finished.

I haven't been following, but 200m is still her primary event, right?

They're also talking about an injury she picked up recently, which is a bugger :(

Ah well, fingers crossed for the next 10-12 seconds...
Yes it is. She certainly hasn't seemed herself in the 100m.

Good on Darryll Neita though!

Aye, tbf, I was conscious of that in myself once I realised other Brits were in contention for the final.

It's sort of understandable, but a shame all the same. I think the better of the commentators/pundits would probably recognise it themselves, but maybe not in the moment.

In fact, here they are talking about Neita now! :D
