Brazil v Germany (Semi Final) Tuesday 8th July 2014

A Brazil win brings incomparable joy to a great majority of 200 million people in a country with the only 61st highest GDP per capita in the world. Hate FIFA and the authorities fo rtheir handling of the tournament, but don't hate Brazil, it's wonderful that a country that isn't the USA or from Europe is so powerful in the world's greatest sport.

Familiarity breeds contempt so I'm just throwing that in there.

Also people keep telling me Brazil 'expects to win' and are arrogant... Trust me, we are used to losing and we don't expect to win, we hope we will win. There's a big difference ;)

Brazilians are used to a constant barrage of misery, hardship and corruption, but are always hopeful.

To be honest, at this stage in the tournament I think any one of the last four could go on and win it. May the best team win!

It is nice that Brazil help to counterbalance European dominance, it's just a shame they're such cheats at the moment. A Brazil - Netherlands final would be a horrible thing to watch.

Not that the other prospects fill me with joy. Brazil -Argentina would have the most bite, I guess. And I did tip the Argies from the off...

A Brazil - Argentina final in either Rio or Buenos Aires would be such a special event and this could be the only chance to see it in our lifetimes. There couldn't really be a bigger international football match. The history of the World Cup almost needs it to happen in my view. Ultimately, the quality of the match is what matters, and there are no guarantess there, but if we could have a stonker of a derby in the Maracana between these two huge rivals it has the capacity to be one of the most memorable sporting events of all time.

ohh go on then, that just about convinced me to support brazil now. I'm not going to do it passionately though.

Talking of anthems...I love the way Brazil go mental and keep singing after the music stops. What's all that abouth then?

We've got one of the official German team's photographers staying with us here. He's been so incredibly nice and showing us all the photos of following the team around Brazil it's hard not to warm to them a bit. Yesterday we took him to the team hotel so he can get shots of them arriving, the atmosphere was mental. Helicopters, screaming fans, military police trying (and mostly failing) to organise some crowd control.

I want brasil to win but I think the Germans will do it

Well saying that, Brasil have been pretty dirty so far so it clouds my view
