Boomtown Fair 2010

Inclined to agree ...

We'll have to think about the MK aspect, it may? be drivable for us (deb's decision not mine ... ;) ), but tis a fair old way from S Wales.

Bit of a 50/50 for us right now, but we'll decide soon.

Sounds like you're watering it down. Not really a step in the right direction.

Ive not been before, but was mainly interested cus i heard it was quite rawkus....... if what onket is saying is true then i dont know how keen ill be......

I'm hoping it is. Rather than the shooting self in foot plan it looks to be on the surface.

I have no problem travelling to a festival but Milton Keynes is one hell of a drive from Wales, especially with a caravan.

I have no problem with family orientated festivals, I like taking my kids to festivals, but in the past Boomtown has been so good, there was so much going on, it was the one fest of the year where I like to leave the kids at home.

I suppose it is good that there will be more for kids to do, its not as if kids being around will stop the grown ups having any fun (certainly never stopped me), but there is no way I could put up with ten hours (five hours there and five back) of ‘are we there yet dad’. If I want a kid friendly festival I think will go to Shambala, they have the formula just right, and it’s much nearer.

The website says big and bold - Boomtown is changing massively - I am not sure why they are doing that; if it aint broke, don’t fix it I say. They had the formula just right; it was even better than endorse it, which is saying something. I can understand wanting to improve things, but Boomtown has been so good in the past I am not sure it could be improved ‘massively’. Having said that, the line up still looks pretty tasty, so they will have to mess up big time to actually ruin it.

I think the bottom line for me is that I have been spoilt for two years, a truly awesome festival less than two hours drive from my house, something I am not used to. I have no problem with it moving about, but Milton Keynes is one hell of a move. I am well cheesed off with this - but at least I found out before I bought a ticket.

Last year I decided to go to different festivals from those that I went to in 2008. I allowed myself to go to boomtown in 2009 because it had changed its name / location and because it was so awesome in 2008. This year I think I will stick more rigidly to my plan to go different festivals from last year and will reluctantly give boomtown a miss. Looks like a return to endorse it may be on the cards.

NB... post edited after reassurances from The Mayor

aye aye aye it will still be just as much fun if not more, that lot don't know how not to have fun...the way i see it its not a dance event tho and as the music is all live bands aimed between 16 + 60 they are undoubtably going to get a lota feedback from peeps wantin it more family orientated an plus the few peeps than want it more Rawcous or wat eva wud probably try and sneek in anyway lol....no im jokin but you can see my point

I personly want it exactly like last year.. no changes ..was soooo good!

My neagativity, if i am honest, is down to the massive move in location, line up is still to die for. I have edidted my post to reflect sleeping on it and a reassuring PM from the Mayor.

that's brilliant news about it becoming more kidz friendly, not that i wouldn't have gone again anyway :) what an ace weekend we had,and everyone in our group enjoyed them self's, it was a wicked one as i took my little girl, (who's 5) my sister and her partner came who have 3 children (aged 3,6 and 11), friends came, some had children some didn't and to top it my parents came, who enjoyed shambala, sunrise and glast (go on oldies!!who also aren't that bad at babysitting :) ) ye so really exited about this one,not botherd one bit about the move ,adventure on!

well ive sent off an email in the hopes i can work, then it wont matter if i go on me own :D

hey organising kids!!! i know it's your BABY and v v v v v v EXCITING!! but lots of CAPS !!!!! and 'exciting' etc etc do put people off. if it works already, why are you DRAMATICALLY expanding it? the death of many an event ime

unless you got some marketing under/graduates to help and in that case i'll let ya orf ;)

BTF update

I wouldn’t say Boomtown is dramatically expanding in the slightest that’s the last thing we want to do. But I would say that watering it down is a good way of putting it, with a festival only really in its 2nd year it is inevitable that it’s going to change and everyone will have their own opinion on this!

We have taken into account pages of emails and forum messages from people with their views and the general consensus is, ‘absolutely amazing festival but it needs to be even more family orientated’

This may not be everyone’s cup of tea and by taking this route it may reflect in ticket sales, but is simply the best and only real option to ensure the event will take place easily in future years.

re shuttle buses - we will be looking at this in detail in the next month or so ...don’t worry like many other aspects we are completely reworking our plans and assure you they will be running like clockwork ;-) Please check the website in early April for schedules.

Not drastically fussed myself that it's going down the repectable/family route and watering down a bit. Shambala seems to combine both family and grown up fun festie elements still.

But then I'm very much a getting on in life old schooler :( and not so 'raucous' as I once was, these days ;).

The promised Boomtown line up still leaves plenty of scope for partying by the look of it, anyway

We haven't decided one way or t'other for definite yet, for practical and £££s reasons, but it remains on our radar for a decision later.
