Best time to hit the 'Reduced To Clear' section?

Something happened on Friday that I've been waiting to post about. Only now am I calm enough to give a fair account.

I was approaching the reduced meat and fish section of Waitrose, where there was a couple picking over the stickered items. They hadn't yet put anything in their basket - let me make that perfectly clear. As I came within grabbing distance, the male person in the couple turned and saw me, and suddenly with one movement of his arm swept no less than four packets of discounted venison mince into the basket the female person was carrying. She wasn't expecting this, so it was clear that the only reason he had acted like that was to prevent me even having the option of considering the mince for my own purchase. After another good look at the shelf, they parted to allow me to view the remaining feeble selection of almost-off haddock and Yorkshire puddings.

It's the gracelessness of it that really upset me.

Scorched earth in coop recently. No new bargains :( although there is still some tb black pudding in the freezer that I'll be eating later this week.

Santino alles fair in love and tb wars

How rude.

You might have to take it to mumsnet for a more indepth discussion.

almost certainly a Conservative, if not an active tory voter and activist. The reduced section is to be shared.

I got some pre made mash for 50p. Bit stodgy, had to liven it up with a splash of milk and some mixed herbs

9 quids worth of lovely marinated pepper things from the delivery counter for £2 yesterday, and loads of 19p packs of fruit and a 45p (was £5) bunch of flowers today. I really need to stop buying stuff for a bit though and start eating what I've got before I go away.

I just went into Waitrose for my free coffee and they had loads of packs of Nicorette reduced from £21 to £3.99. Didn't buy them coz I'm skint and completely out of touch with prices / people to resell stuff like that to.

I also bought a reduced protein bar in Waitrose yesterday, then realised that I'd been given 1/3 off the original price for having a My Waitrose card as well so went back and bought the other 18 that were reduced.

Not a score from the TB but, in the spirit of sharing news of good bargains, I found a basically brand new pair of black Tommy Hilfiger jeans in my size in a charity shop - list price £85, I paid £6.50

Waitrose tb raid. Not as good as last time but I got two chicken and chorizo pizzas and two mushroom ravioli beschamel (sp) bakes. £8 for the lot would've cost £17 full price. Each bake feeds two appaz... Also a bag of salad for 10p. Problem with waitrose is I end up spending the money that I've 'saved' on other stuff like wine

I think Friday night is a better night there for tb.

Sainsburys had loads of pains au chocolat reduced from a quid to 24p this afternoon. They freeze very well so I bought as many as would fit in the freezer.

Never seen venison reduced or at normal price but I often get British beef mince reduced to £2.00 which is fine.

yeah but its in town centrewhere I harldy ever go cos kettering town centre is waste

Kettering sounds a lot fancier than when I lived there! There weren't even a topshop in them days. And McDonald's still had them mushroom sits that kids used to fall off and crack the back of their heads. And bare gas 'eads in the graveyard next to that shit museum.

*wobbly hand gesture* not a great deal in it but kettering is less violent and the estates don't look quite so much like the goddam banlieue of northamptonshire

I actually miss Kettering some times...
its very gentle and quiet mostly ennit? was in london a month or so back and got a mild bit of the culture shock. No bumpkin like, northampton town is hectic enough and I grew up there, but its not london hectic. And compared to either kettering is peaceful and sleepy. Shangri-la in the rose of the shires and all that.

It reminds me of simpler times. I used to walk down to the little village and sit by the brook in the sun for ages, and play in the woods behind brambleside... It's all houses there now. I remember going to my first parties in a quarry on the edge of town somewhere when i wasn't old enough to be there. I thought I might move back there one day but most of my family that lived there have left or died... My mum and nanny are still in Northampton though...
