Is Voodoo Chile a riff based song? It's bass and drums plus noodling isn't it?Jimi was dead before I was born.
But, Voodoo Chile is the correct answer.

I'm not an authority on what constitutes a riff. But I think so, I'm imitating the riff now with my mouth. It's not all noodling! Is Voodoo Chile a riff based song? It's bass and drums plus noodling isn't it?
If we’re talking …Slight Return, it lives in that strange land between riffs and licks. It’s more of a motif, because it changes root note and is ornamented. But it is repeated by the guitar throughout the intro. I vote riff.Is Voodoo Chile a riff based song? It's bass and drums plus noodling isn't it?
I was listening to Voodoo Chile. Am now listening to Voodoo Child (Slight Return) and there are definitely persistent repeated guitar phrases. Bit before my time.If we’re talking …Slight Return, it lives in that strange land between riffs and licks. It’s more of a motif, because it changes root note and is ornamented. Technically, a riff is an ostinato: a persistently repetitive phrase or motif. A lick is a single phrase.
It wasn't upside down in that sense. He still strung it with the top string at the bottom for him. Just had the controls in the wrong place and a bit awkward. And upside down of course as he was left handed... nuts.

The spelling "chile" is based upon the way that Hendrix pronouned the word "child", I believe.I always used to think it was pronounced Chile like the country. Well, like we used to say it, not ChillAYY like the cool kids say now.

Yeah, I can get on board with that.I really think intros do not count as riffs even if they technically repeat exactly a few times, they aren't sustaining the song.
There's an intro. Which is sublime and a bit of a riff I guess. then that monstrous guitar line which is also a bit of a riff... I dunno. I don't think Jimi's brain was wired to think in these terms.
He seems to playing it pretty paced up here.
