This will pleaseth some dads but not all -Autechre are doing The Residency this week. An hour a night from Dec 9th til the 12th - first was last night and is on Sounds. Residency mixes are usually themed, but no more info yet. Am listening to last night’s and it’s sort of downbeat so far. I hope at least one is a hiphop/electro one as they’re good at that.
The rest are on at 11pm each day til Friday.
I hope they upset a few stomachs, hearts and minds as they can be quite noisy and incomprehensible to Dads wanting to hear Toploader or Kasabian.
I haven’t checked Sounds in ages and there are some great recent shows on there. We’ve had a Residency show from Pet Shop Boys and Laurie Anderson’s next too (I thought she had died, or was that just Lou?)
Looks like Sherelle is back too, with some venerable guests such as Larry Gardener and TYGAPAW most recently. Wish I had time to listen to all of that! Looks like she’s widening her remit a bit if she’s getting Garnier on. TYGAPAW is a bit more techno than her sets but proper having it ravey Brooklyn techno, so they’ll fit right in. I think Sherelle is a fantastic radio DJ - like her patter - keeps the chat to a minimum but still full of beans.
You also have to listen to Keith Tenniswood’s groovy half hour Icons minimix on MAH’s show from last week. Nice bit of rare Drexciya in there and a tiny little bit of J Saul Kane, whose death was announced last week, so the show is dedicated to him. Rightly so.

It's a real shame. Grey, lazy sunday afternoons used to be perfect with the 6 of years ago. They desperately need to freshen up their roster. It's only Grimshaw, Huey and Ravenscroft I can tolerate really out of this current lot. Maybe Gilles Peterson, but the rest are dire.
Probably as equally grumbly, mumbly, growly, incomprehensibly boring as fuck Bill Nighy sitting in today.
