Baked Alaska

Does anyone have a recipe for it they can recommend?

I've tried searching on google but their instructions are all so vague and bizarre, I think it's probably fairly simple but I need more specific step by step instructions and an exact recipe that i know is going to work.

Can anyone help...?
:)

ooh - how does the science work with this one again? Is it the cake with the icecream inside that doesn't melt?

i thought it went in the oven aswell

That recipe's a bit wierd, with a fruit and nut bar. Isn't it meant to be a sponge cake mixture

My mum always did it with an ice-cream roll in the middle and the ice-cream roll went in the oven...

The ice cream roll was covered in meringue and hundreds and thousands. The ice cream melted a bit, but not much. Something to do with the oven being v hot but the baked alaska only being in the oven for a short while and the air in the merginue type mixture acts a shield to the protect the ice cream.

Could be wrong though. It's been known to happen from time to time ;)

I cheat a little, I buy a sponge base, pile the ice-cream onto this. I then carefully cover the ice-cream and the sponge base with the meringue. Put the whole lot into the oven until the points of the meringue are browning. Alternatively use a blowtorch.

for that extra bit of fun when you serve it pour over some warm brandy/rum/whiskey and flame it.

I'm going to give this a go soon using an air fryer.
Here is a recipe from Jamie Oliver:

I'm going to adapt mine so that it has no hot cross bun and no peaches.

I think I will use the bottom of a toffee muffin, salted caramel ice cream and mixed roasted caramelised nuts and then meringue.

I will let you know how it goes 😌
