Shepherd's pie! Bake beans or No?!

Well?

I'm not against the idea in principle because it would probably be quite tasty. However, it wouldn't be a shepherds pie. It would be a minced lamb and beans pie. I'm afraid due to this I have to vote "no".

I understand your answer. Let me know how you enjoy minced lamb and beans pie, whenever you happen to try it.

Would like to make the distinction between Shepard's Pie (Lamb mince) and, Cottage Pie (Beef mince).

The former? beans? Never!

The latter? a wonderful addition. Summat else that's moist, that'll flirt with the rich cow juices in a symphony of processed tomato and pulse protein

What about Cumberland pie?

I was going to say haricot Beans in a pie with a fatty duck leg = "Cassoulet", but it seems only Clive's vegan pies actually put a crust on it.

Either in or alongside is fine, it's not shepherd's pie if you put the beans in it though. Same goes for cottage pie.

I like to eat leftover haggis with baked beans (mixed in) and mash too

Technically, no. However, many people will refer to a Cottage Pie (beef mince) as a Shepherd's Pie (lamb mince) and a Cumberland Pie has carrots in and cheese on top. So, technicality is not really an issue (is it?)

Beans can make a creamy, slightly sweet, acidic addition to beef mince (a worthy and respected combination) and can make the pie go further and kids seem to like it.

Pie is pie and many combinations are delicious and worth bringing to the table, I reckon..

I don't mind if you want to call it sth different ;)

Regarding the haggis, do you eat the leftovers cold?
