I don't think the men have been that successful either? In the 100m, It's been 32 years since Linford Christie last medalled, Alan Wells won pretty much on default, in 1980, because of the American boycott and you have to go back to 1960 before that for last time GB medalled. Hopefully Zharnell Hughes can not get DQed, this time, and scrape onto the podium.
Although a couple of weeks after the Olympics, Wells did beat the top Americans in another race so who knows what would've happened if the US had competed.

What is with counting the number of Africans in the 100m men’s final?
I assumed a very badly worded comment on how the balance of power has shifted in sprinting. In the 90s I can only remember Frankie Fredericks of Namibia being at this level

Horrendous Derek Redmondesque injury for the Kenyan 400m runner just outside Charlie Dobson

Suspect Dobson will make the final and an outside chance of a medal
That wasn't nice to see. Also he didn't have his Dad to walk him down to the finish :(

Charlie and Matt both ran well but Michael Norman also ran an easy looking 44.10! 😮

Shame for Hinchliffe not to go through but he seemed pretty philosophical about it.

Eta Hughes either.

Humans running at 43kms and jumping 15m astonishes me. I cannot get my head around what the human body (well a tiny number of them!) can do

It’s the match between control and power for the high jump; they accelerate to the bar, then slow, then lift up.

Unlucky for Phoebe Gill, maybe she will be a fastest loser, was in lane 2 for too much of the race.

Jemma Reekie I think got caught front running and died in the final straight. She’ll be gutted.

Do you remember Ingrid Kristiansen back in the day who used to always wear gloves in the marathon?

I do. But if we're really going back, my introduction to athletics was the 1972 Munich Olympics* and Dave Wottle winning the 800m in a cap. And wearing it getting his gold.

But really you had to see how he ran all his races, including the final. He'd be last, often by some distance, with 200-300m to go. Always. No chance. And then he'd go. He won gold by 0.03 seconds.
