Athletics - Running and Jumping and Throwing and stuff!

There are four kinds of athletes, those who get caught doping, those who don't get caught doping, freaks of nature who can compete without doping, and honest people who never win anything.
I support the freaks (they're not freaks - it's hard work) and the last lot. I think a lot of golds won by the freaks this time.

I think you have to work ridiculously hard whether you are a doper or you play it straight. With these sports it's a matter of less than 1% seperating champions from DNQ.

Holly Bleasdale really does not like those shorts, does she? She's been faffing about with them every time we've seen her.
Go and put some leggings on!

and they wonder why children are getting fatter :(

So where do kids play sports nowadays if their school doesn't have the facilities?

My kids' primary school has no playing field and a tiny playground. They do their PE in the hall or the one small all-weather court in the playground (between 700 pupils) and Sports Day they have to walk half a mile up the road to the nearest park

So do they not have room for games of rounds, a sandpit for long jump, netball courts etc? My infant/junior school probably didn't have those whereas senior school did, but junior school had swimming pool, but senior school had to use Warrior Square in Southend (where a few good swimmers have come from)

:(

Colin Moynihan was on the radio yesterday making all the right noises about state school sport participation. Shame he was part of the tory government that started off the playing field sales. Wanker.

Nope, nothing like that, just the one all-weather court which gets used for netball and football but it's tiny. When they have swimming lessons they have to get a bus to another school. They don't even get their recommended minimum two hours a week of PE a lot of the time because of timetabling pressures as the available space is required by 21 classes :(

That's outrageous :(

I'm watching diving, which is probably best as judging by this thread, not much happening with athletics and British :D

Sanchez got a hell of a round of applaude for crying his little head off at his medal ceremony.
He was overcome, the poor old soul.

Is Barbados represented? I've a soft spot for Bajans. I seem to have beasted a lot of them. :hmm:

Huge respect to Kirani James for the way he immediately turned around to shake the hand of every other runner before celebrating.
