Loved seeing France humiliated out of the world cup by the mexican green shirts!!!! Ireland aint bitter but fuck me that felt good!!!!

Ghana goal celebrations are amazing!!!

but im missing wimbledon and that sucks!!

Ghana goal celebrations are amazing!!!

Bunch of wussies. They only scored from the penalty spot and then go dancing and jiving like they'd scored the best goal in the World Cup ever. They're not fit to wipe Roger Milla's arse.

Hope the USA crush them which shouldn't be that hard as Ghana haven't scored a goal from open play yet.

Well... it's being average so far. The football has been mostly passable, referring has been slightly above average (at least, no "depressed cows" and triple yellows so far).
There were some upsets, but mostly to favourite teams underperforming rather than the underdogs rising up to the challgenge, except maybe Uruguay.

Plus, the only actual upset so far was France being knocked off. England stumbled, but still qualified, Portugal played miserably for the first 110 minutes then had a spark of decent footballing, Italy and maybe Spain will struggle but most likely still qualify (some doubts on Spain, Italy plays one of the worst teams in competition). In the end, it will be the same old teams as always.

Given that I have to stay up til very late to watch games, I've been somewhat disappointed by the quality of footer on display. Haven't got back what I've put in.

I am now !

Currently I'm in a physiotherapy hospital and was watching the match with some of the other patients.

I'll copy and paste from my blog:
England, Rootbeer, and Popcorn

England was playing and in the afternoon most of us gathered around the large wide screen plasma TV in the communal room. The staff gave out plastic union jack bowler hats which we had to wear, but for some reason no one stood during the national anthem. Shortly after kick-off a friend from church joined us and brought my requested rootbeer and popcorn. England was in the lead and the party was now in full swing. Remembering once again how greatful I am that I at least don't have any heart problems (seriously) we wooted and panicked our way through the match, even making the occasional mexican wave. We counted down the last seconds and celebrated the final whistle with another wave going around the room.

Can't wait for the Germany match ....

Its pretty good - a slow start but getting more dramtic as the group stages climax - and it seems the more attacking teams are prospering.

Ghana or uruguay could get to the semis.

Argentina and maradonna are pure entertainment (and pretty fucking good)

Germany playing good attacking football

France getting their just deserts - Italy might go home early.

Portugal and Brazil scoring for fun. Spain due to turn up anytime now.

England manage to be not too bad in their last game!

This. I'm not particularly a football fan (prefer rugby) but I do like watching entertaining football - and all of these teams have provided that.

I'll probably have to give up my British passport after saying this (s'ok, got another one anyway:D), but I would love to see Argentina win so Maradona could give all the naysayers the finger:)

I’m enjoying the World Cup because the lest expected nations are making the most hyped teams play and not take the WC for granted… Sure some groups are easy, like Group G, but even then the North Koreans made Brazil play…

And you might not like the US, but you got like them after all they have gone thru in their group standing to win that group.. There hasn’t been a dull moment when the US plays..

i think the first sentence is far more offensive than the last.

I'm enjoying it, moreso now as Kaka Tim has said and it getting to the climax of the groups, I can't wait for the knock out stage.

+ the hours it's on are superb for my work schedule at the moment, chuck in HD and how football should be watched and it's all good.

Got kind of too much going on, so can't watch it properly. Enjoying the odd game though. It won't be a classic for me though.

I'm enjoyihng it becaquse it gives us something to talk about, because it gives kids something to cheer about, because it's nice to see local shops entering into the spirit it of things and it's a lovely bit of shared wishful thinking
and i like sweaty men

I'm liking it. The quality of a lot of games hasn't been great but it usually isn't in the group stages - the real WC starts on Saturday with the last 16. The have been some good games and shocks though - France and Italy going out early is great (though not entirely surprising) and unless they're careful Spain could join them tomorrow. Now that would be an upset!

I was really enjoying the world cup untill the england performance against algeria made me so miserable I didn't want to watch any other games ( I'm not even supporting england , I'm supporting mexico this world cup ) even france getting knocked out didn't cheer me up much . Then England performed slightly better which made me a bit happier so I watched the germany game and enjoyed that now I've just seen italy are knocked out and I'm fucking loving the whole damn thing again :D

It was quite rubbish to start with. Defences were king. But it's got better and better; England finally remembered how to pass it to one another, France and Italy got what they deserved, David Villa and Lionel Messi are going to be terrifying for Barca next season, and World Cups are rarely remembered for anything in the group games anyway.

So yes, I am enjoying it, and will continue to watch, see who makes history. It's the first World Cup I've not been working during since 94, so it's been great watching everything.

Lots of reasons this is a good one:

-not in a first world country, giving it a more World feel
-in the same time zone as us, so no watching games at 5am
-vuvuzelas!
-south african hosts creating an atmosphere that seems to have put off the usual hooligan idiots - no boarded up shops as england fans run rampage (wait and see what happens on Sunday!)
-great upsets on scores, means everything is up for grabs
-internet streaming means you can watch games at work!
-the football will get better and better
-oh, and tottenham are all over it, down to Harry on the sofa (incidentally Harry will be the next england captain i raekwon)

...lets just hope the fix isnt in in the final stages (we can but hope)

People are more neighbourly

One of the main reasons I'm enjoying the WC is, (in spite of the fact that as an England supporter I stick out amongst my Dutch neighbours) that the whole street has something in common to talk about. Makes it more neighbourly.

I read something on the day of the England -USA game from a bar owner in New York who was showing the game and he said something like 'I'm not the greatest soccer fan but I really like the idea that everyone in the World is excited about the same thing'.

:)
