Are You "Anyone But England"?

tbh, I'm not active on social media and I haven't looked at the world cup threads in here so I don't know what other ABE folk have been doing or saying (or if they even exist).

Out in the real world the only other person I can remember admitting that he was ABE was my Scottish boss during the Euro 96 campaign after I wore a Scotland top (that my mum bought me from Freemans) to the office prior to the England vs Scotland match. That didn't work cos England beat Scotland 2-0. (Gascoigne and the dentists chair).

Two matches later I wore a Barcelona baseball cap to work (the cheapest Spanish wearable I could find in SoccerScene Carnaby St) prior to the England vs Spain quarter final. That didn't work either. Spain had 2 perfectly good goals disallowed and a clear penalty not given and England won on penalties. (Stuart Pearce's penalty redemption).

Before the semi-final I took the only visibly German thing I owned, a giant Frankfurt mug. That finally worked. Germany winning on penalties (again), although I did feel a bit sorry for Southgate missing that penalty.

Should England win the world cup in Russia, Southgate can certainly bury the demons from Euro 96 and that would make a good story, however for now I'm backing Croatia.

Stop pretending to be ABE, you've admitted you aren't and it seems you're just trying to regain some credibility by associating yourself with a cause you don't in fact espouse. You're a fraud, ps.

A very impressive list of token gestures favouring countries you don't really care about!
Really? I think I could have put a bit more effort into it but being a cheapskate I didn't want to spend 40+ quids on nylon football shirts. The Scotland shirt only cost a quid from the Freemans staff shop in Clapham. The Barcelona cap cost about a fiver I thnk and that was my total outlay.

Anyway, it was all good fun and my boss at the time appreciated it.
