anyone back from glastonbury yet, or not?

Sounds like one of those 'classic' years that people will be talking about forever. And, you were there

I remember one year (possibly 85/86?) when it absolutely bucketed down on Friday and Saturday. Took Three days to get all the cars and vans off site. Knee deep swamp of mud and overflowing portaloos in places. Mights as well have cacked and pissed yourself for all the difference it would make :D

I have to say we just turned the Who off, what a crock o shit.

Watching a pensioner fail to swing his mike round his head time after time is not rock and fucking roll.

What a letdown ending.:(

You also had The Gossip or Chemical Brothers (as well as loads of others) to finish the festie off for you though...

we're back and we had a fucking ball, best one yet for me

hardly saw any music, spent all weekend with people i like doing daft things and generally having a ball :D had to leave early as bees' brother fucked his ankle up today and we we're all pretty fucking knackered from the mud but it was wicked, def my best :)

Yes, well if I'd been there I'da been spangled off me head anyway, I don't know what I'm moaning about.

It is 2007 though, know wharra mean?

Indeed. I'm so glad I didn't go this year. £150 plus more in expenses to watch a totally mainstream lineup of NME hype bands and get caked in cold wet mud. No thanks.

Iggy & The Stooges was the only exciting thing from what I saw on TV and I don't even like them that much. At least they fucking rocked!!

What a load of bollocks.

what time do you think most people will start returning. my g/f was on a train coming through Castle Carey last nigth and she said that the station staff were hosing people's wellies down before they got on the train and then providing them with bags to put over their shoes/wellies before they got on the train.

haha, that's bollocks I'm afraid. Pretty much everywhere is mud. There's rivers of mud in most fields, every pathway is either mud or sludge coated metal walkways. Up in the new Park field was fucking ridiculous, a swamp. Maybe a few lesser trod areas (camping areas) have some grass but all I saw was mud, mud and more fucking mud.... So I thought fuck it and came home today. Left my tent and everything there, covered in.. MUD! :D

well yeah by the time you posted but I was watching it live when I posted that and there were still people sat in smaller fields in grassy areas.
Of course its muddy! Its Glastonbury:)

LOL I laughed and switched to the chemical brothers after that...

I want to go so I can go and see all the areas away from the main stage. The Cabaret/circus field looked incredible for instance

Looked like it was a festival of attrition for many......
They may have increased camping space but not sure if they increased space around stages/stalls to accommodate for that many more people? The mud must have made things VERY tiring as well!

it was fucking fantastic

I hurt everywhere - a lot

but I've not had such a good time at glasto before  hardly saw anything on pyramid or the other stage, why would you when theres so much else going on?

All you moaning its too expensive and you wouldn't like the mud, then don't bother going and leave people like me to go  it was amazing :)

really not looking forward to cleaning my boots though  or the tent! (not got wet feet once, nor fell over, wonderful things para-boots, if armies can go to war in them I can manage 5 days in a field!)

bloody fantastic it was

will write more about what we did when the screen stops making my head hurt

Watching Glasto last night on tv reminded me very much of the carnaval experience in Brazil.

Most people there don't actually go out in the streets, they watch it on tv. The big event in Rio itself is too expensive for most people, and also there are limited spaces.

Elsewhere in the country people celebrate the event in their own cities, with their own parties/events.

So, in conclusion, Glastonbury is to England, in a way, what the Carnaval is to Brazil :)

I was thinking about starting a campaign to make the Glastonbury weekend a national holiday (Thurs & Fri) on account of it being a truly British tradition (or English? let's not worry about details here, I'm trying to get a holiday for everyone) while I was wasted on k last night, it seemed like a great idea at the time, and it still does now :)

Something like 'The Festival Weekend', where everyone would have Thurs/Friday off and there would be festivals all over the country.

my legs ache and my liver is quivering , just sneezed about 10 times in a row so I think a cold is on its way not surprsingly , as usual stories to tell and some more great memories in the bank .

I wouldn`t want to do it again next weekend but next year ? ........ of course I will.

This sums it up for me too. Had the best Glasto for years. Hurt like hell today - feet, knees, hips, back, shoulders - head suprisingly ok but thats more to do with not drinking so I could drive home at 2:00 in the morning. Amazed I'm awake to be honest - but thats because I'm fucking starving  .

It was the first Glasto I've done pretty much on my own - will do it again cos I met so many fab random people, did exactly what i wanted to do, and could always meet up with urbanites. It was fab to meet all the urbs I've never met before - probly can't remember everyone cos I was too trollied at the cider bus on wednesday.

Car park was a nightmare - took 4 people to push me out and the field wasn't even 1/4 empty so it coud only get worse.

All in all a classic year - and whats all this moaning about indie bollocks? Stay away from it if you don't like it cos theres guarenteed to be something else that you do somewhere else. Spend time in the circus tent, the caberet whatever - theres so much to do you vnever get to do all you want to.

Now I must be off and get a Boatmans Breakfast at a local caff cos I is a hungry girl.

:) :)

Well, quite. It looked even more like my idea of hell this year, which is why my interest in attending has been zero and is likely to remain ever thus. Me and the mister thoroughly enjoyed curling up in the front room last night with the curtains closed, watching the Who playing their pub rock and discussing how grim it all looked :D Each to their own pleasure innit?

Glad you had a good time :)

*adds hammerntongues to the urbanites what i missed list*

:D

sadly another Glastonbury passed without meeting any Urb`s , I did struggle up to Dragonfield a couple of times stupidly thinking that i would be able to spot an Urb by the colour of the tent or the look on their face but to no avail . I hope everyone had a great time up there , that path was a bit scary to walk , you needed to be a mountain goat by saturday night.

I feel exactly the same way as you May!

I don't like crowds and I don't like mud and I don't like camping - I somehow think that I wouldn't like Glastonbury :D

But everyone looked like they were having fun and I'm enjoying reading the stories :)

Each to their own indeed
