Any GB athletics people who might do OK?

I went to the Grand Prix event at Crystal Palace the other week. The British winners were:

Phillips Idowu -- looks like a reasonable bet in the triple jump (and the other two male Brits were pretty good too).

Christine Ohuruogu -- looked very good in the 400m, as did Nicola Sanders (who came second), but they will be against stiffer competition in the Olympics. Lee McConnell also looked pretty good. The women's 4x400 team should be awesome.

Lisa Dobriskey -- she won the 1500m but she will be up against the various high quality Africans in the Olympics, so I wouldn't be looking for a gold there. She's young and improving very rapidly though, so who knows?

Kelly Sotherton -- always in with a shout in the heptathlon

Of those I didn't see, Paula could well win the marathon if she stays fit. Jo Pavey is a quiet underdog in the 5k.

You'll notice that all but the triple jumpers in the above list are women. The women's team looks much better than the men's team this year. Forget about men's sprinting -- the Jamaicans (and other Caribbeans) and Merkins are in a different league. Mo Farah might do well in the 5k, as might Andy Baddeley in the 1500m. And Michael Rimmer is worth keeping an eye on in the 800m. None of them are even close to being favourites though.

Tom Lancashire in the 1500m also potentially.

Martin Rooney in the 400m - the 4X400m is gonna be a cracker for both men and women

Helen Clitheroe - steeplechase.

And you've forgotten Jade Johnson - long jump, looking very very good from what i've seen.

I agree with what you say about the women's team, I think apart from Phillips Idowu, the men will be lucky to get to the final in a lot of cases.

I don't usually do phwooaaar! posts, but hey -

Looking very very good (as is Jo Fenn on the left):

Clitheroe is a good athlete, but she won't get near the steeplechase medals. She was well beaten by at least one Irishwoman at Crystal Palace, for a start.

Can we concentrate on their actual track performance that, y'know, they are actually doing the hard work for? Rather than some puerile "phwoaaring" please? The latter doesn't really make anybody look good and there is already enough of the board devoted to it.

Soz, I've had a cold shower now.
