Alternative Euro 2004: U75 Team Needed

Damn, this is one of the few things that makes me wanna live in London!

Anyway, as I've prolly said before, I am in London on the weekend so can come out to play. I'm prepared to not be fully in the gaffer's thoughts at this stage as she's only seen me play once (and I limped out early 'cos I was decidedly not kitted out to play in fairly warm weather). A spot on the bench would be fine.

Despite my pretensions to being a striker (one goal and I think I'm bloody Rooney), defence is my domain really. Midfield confuses me.

Promise to turn out wherever you want me this weekend :)

Nice one JTG! Look forward to it on Saturday!

bloody 'ell, we may just win a game or two!

I'm sorry if I was a bit aggressive at times. I find it very hard to 'turn off' when playing football, and I don't believe in going in half-heartedly. I didn't mean to try and injure anyone.
don't want to dwell on this at all, but i did think your play was somewhat reckless at times flimsier. good that you noticed that yourself though, maybe next time we'll have less bruises on team-mates legs, eh?

tony and i agreed he is the best man for the goal job. i know you laid claim to the gloves a while ago wowbagger, but in fairness i think it wise to go with someone we have seen play and has fit into the team well. please feel free to consider yourself #2 keeper if you are able to turn up for the comp though, we need all the subs we can get :)

jtg, good to hear you are about this saturday, training at regents park at 11am. again can only promise you a place on the bench, but i think you'll agree that is fair?

was really impressed with some of last nights football. ringo, you are a valuable addition to the team, and i am glad you enjoyed it and are up for more!

I have put together what i think are peoples best positions and will send it out in a pm later this morning (work comes first today :( ) think you will all agree with the set up as it came quite clear where peoples strenghts are last night.

some good closing down and 'spacial football' (is that a term?peopel getting into space is what i mean) was going on, and i reckon 50% of you have mastered calling for the ball and making others aware. nice one.

still work to be done on some passing, but all in all i was very pleased :) (<-- pleased gaffer)

I don't mind Rollem if wowbagger can play in goal, if I'm honest I'd rather play outfield but like I said last night, I have no problem being the keeper of the sacred goal, cos I am fucking brilliant like innit. depending on how it's going maybe we could have 2 games each in goal, I'd just like at least one run out - if at all poss' of course gaffer..

can I wear a hurling helmet in the goal

>>>shuffles away humbly

fair enough tony and if wowbagger can make it i am happy to play two keepers (at the same time, do you think they will let us? ;) ) but really would like you to play in goal as you were great there last night. not all the glory is gained in the outfield you know ;)

i'm very relieved that there's enough players, as you may have noticed, i hadn't got it together to attend any training, i remain available as one of the crowd, and will turn up on the day to lend support (and will bring kit just in case of injury and no show) :)

I really enjoyed last night and thought I played ok considering I had a couple of pints of Guinness before turning up. ;)

OK, see ya Saturday. Only arriving in Victoria at 10:30 so hopefully can just about make it in time

Gym for me today, rowing and cross trainer.

anyone fancy a game tonight, not even a game, just some 2 touch keep ball :D

Hope your foot gets well soon flimsier, I'm doing funky exercises and stretches for my foot...

Glad the team is shaping up very well :)

Heel toe heel toe.

All these injuries are a nightmare. I'd say Flimsier and don't take this the wrong way you need to calm it down a bit otherwise you'll get a lot more injuries.

Getting stuck in is good, but if you do it too much, you'll get injuries to yourself. Roy Keane is a good example.

The team is shaping up well. We've got a good balance of players and think most of us are capable of playing in different positions but think the team is kind of picking itself at the minute.

Was impressed with some of the moves and closing down last night.

As for the private life Chris, my missus has a half day today and is meeting up with her old boss, then this evening/tonight she is out for a few drinks so I think I'm in the clear - I just happen to have my kit with me too...

I would be keen but I don't have my kit and I want to give my body a chance to recover and not push it too hard, too quick.

That's what I mean. Its virtually impossible to just 'not get stuck in' and still play.

I very rarely (touch wood) get injuries (this one is not from last night, just aggravated) - only one has kept me out (for 2 weeks) in 5 seasons (except an ingrown toenail) before this one.

thats rubbish, sorry. play like that and maybe you dont get injuries, but other players certainly do.

I'd argue that the only reckless incident was the stupid attempt at an overhead kick. None of the rest was me not going for the ball as honestly (and appropriately as possible). Once I missed it and caught ringo (which wasn't nice) but I didn't mean to, and the other time I ran into tony (who I didn't see).

However, point taken. I'm much more aggressive in competitive situations (and I get the impression ringo might be too ;))

yeah nice one for everyone turning up last night, including the boss and supporters! I really enjoyed that. At least we know we'll not be the whipping boys now.

To be honest, I think we've got a fair bit of skill but also we're quite a physical team. We're mostly big chaps who like getting stuck in, which can't be bad. I think we'll do ok. :)

so, just tony and myself tonight? tony, you still up for it? reckon we'd be able to find a game, and if not, we can just go for a jog to improve stamina a bit?
