Btw, I think the smarmy thing about what he's saying, is that they are deliberately tarting up these teenagers. I don't think that's right.
But another thing. I suspect that Jon isn't the only man in the world who has watched olympic gymnastics, and had a sexual thought. And it has nothing to do with the age of the performer.
I agree with Jon that the age of gymnasts is an interesting issue, but its not always as simple as sexualisation. Rather (as has often been the case) it is the opposite: young bodies reduced to machines for sport, radically de-sexualised (missing periods, drugged with hormones to promote/arrest muscular growth etc). Olympic "ideals" are a spurious fig leaf for brutal machinic training regimes, nationalistic politics, and grotesquely profligate capital. The IOC is as corrupt a regime as that of China itself...

I didnt need one in the endSickbag Melinda?
I didnt need one in the end
Fill it with pic n mix and then we can talk
Jazzz, watch the gymnastics, you will see that most are strong and healthy looking.
We were discussing this on the other gymnastics thread, and its just the Chinese teams and maybe the Russians who seem traditionally small.
As for the rest of the world, the days of gymnasts looking under fed and deprived are hopefully gone.
They have to survive heavy schedules, and immense physical strains- they need to be powerful as well as flexible.
Modern routines have been as influenced by advances in men's routines as they have by the ultra feminine aesthetics of the 70s.
If you compare shoulder size and thigh width of modern gymnasts and their 70s counterparts, the modern girls look stronger with greater muscle develpment.
WHY??? What have I done? Just commenting on the oversexualising of young teenage girls. Hardly the first person ever to do so. Which particular part of this are you all objecting to?
If people just keep insinuating that I'm some sort of pervert I'll forget about this thread. If you wish to expand upon your criticisms, I might respond.

and like I said.. we should put them all in outfits they cant move in to deter anyone who might tune in and see their bodies? How should we judge their form? By CCTV feed on goggles to the judges just in case? Should the swimmers all wear full length outfits too? ( they do for sporting performance reasons BTW- just as gymnasts opt for leotards)
Get real. You sound like one of these blokes who claims women shouldnt wear anything revealing without asking/deserving to be raped in an alley
Read the rest of the thread, hissy.
But no, I dont know the first thing about Gymnasts (male or female), their sex lives or training regiemes. Nor do I care.
I was more referring to the fact that a paedophile could easily tune in to oggle. And the make up/skinny costumes do little to deter this.
If any of you cant see this to be the case, then you are fucking morons who should not be allowed out of the house unaccompanied. End of fucking story.
seen the bum flesh though? can't have been avoiding it hard enough. makes you a bit....
i reckon there's more than a grain of truth in it but beware the power of the tabloid telly machine.
I have no first hand insight in the functioning of tabloids nor have I any knowledge of whatever can be found in them.
I have first hand knowledge of viewing a serious documentary showing living Chinese todlers and their living parents and their living torturing trainers.
You can always believe it doesn't exist and it was all acting (including the performances in public where they were pushed to take part in for the greater glory of the schools) if that is a comfort to you.
salaam.
Hey AldebranI have first hand knowledge of viewing a serious documentary showing living Chinese todlers and their living parents and their living torturing trainers.
What do you think about ballet dancers Jon?
What do you think about all those people who go to watch ballet?
What about when there are young girls and boys in the cast?
