Abandoned stuff in germany / poland

Um

Looks like I have another virtuarlly free car on the way for an urbex of abandoned places to Eastern Europe in a month or two. Anyone got any interesting stuff to aim for in Belgium, Holland, Germany. Western Poland, Northern Czech areas ?

I know the usual list of places and have done a few but if anyone has any tips for stuff that may be off the radar, would be appreciated.

Thanks

How 'abandoned' do you want? Are you just looking for the usual derelict old industrial/railway stuff, or would you be interested in visiting places with regeneration plans?

Yeps- Prora is sorta too well known for me exploring. I have got a Polish Sanitorium and another town in a forest to head for but invariably they will be razed or being developed as I get there.

I guess Prora probably doesn't count as "off the radar"?

I thought Prora been undergoing considerable rebuilding/conservation over the last few years.

There is even a youth hostel in one of the blocks and plans are afoot for a bigger makeover, including several hotels and lots of apartments:

Yes, but it's so massive that the refurbished bit is just a small fraction of the whole building, or at least that's how it appeared when I went there in 2008.

I was taken round an abandoned coal mine in Belgium - think it was near Leven. Many of the miners were Turkish and the lockers were still there with Turkish fag packets and sweetie wrappers stuck to them. I can remember the name or place but if its the sort of thing you are looking for I can get that info.

update again, I am off on another one of my 2 week explores - heading to berlin/ Krakow , then maybe : Austria/ hungary /Romania / Moldova / Slovenia/ Croatia possibilities - still planning, will be off in a month or so .

any tips appreciated

I went to the abandoned airfield in Schonwalde. About 45 mins out of Berlin, we also visited the Citadel in Spandau on the way. Make sure you go to the sculpture/bust gallery, it is easy to miss but the best bit.

If you want to go pm me and I'll tell you exactly how to get in. It isn't that easy to find the entrance.

Cheers- never went to Shoenwalde last year but is on the list for this jaunt. will drop a PM near the time for get an idea of entry.

I may be adding some abandoned hotels to the mix this year- well, anything abandoned really - there are a few around the mountains of the region that I have hard are decent to explore. Hungary looks to have tons, so may head off there after Berlin

ha. I think I may have a victim already to navigate & assist if the car dies and I have to push it in a ditch,

eta- stopping off in Amsterdam on night 1 if you want dropped off there. the rest of the trip is totes haphazard and likely dodgy

I was in a 'ski resort' called Muntele Mic, near Timisoara in March. There is a disused chairlift from the valley, and quite a few half-built, abandoned and/or burnt out hotels and spas in the resort itself. Some from the Ceaucescu era and some more recent. No-one lives there in the winter apart from some stray dogs but I dunno whats its like in the summer.

Sounds like dreamland for me!

I was going to attempt Buzludzha in Bulgaria but it looks to be utterly stripped now and rather too dangerous. Bulgaria however is worth a trip on its own

I thought it was totally locked-down now since the current state finally sorted out its ownership issues by giving it to the successor to the old Bulgarian Communist Party, with the condition that they at least make it safe/conserve it?

Which of course stands to bankrupt the party, which just might have been part of the plan all along..!

Ahh wow, top memories. The surroundings are awesome. I went in a 4x4 from Veliko Tarnovo (nice place!) though with some other people. Great fun. This was 2013 and it definitely was ok going in then as long as you were careful. We climbed up the tower and everything. I have some awesome pics. Be careful but dont miss it!

Ok apparently as of 2017 you can no longer get in! Too bad, still worth seeing from outside anyway.
