5 days in the Peak District

Pleased to hear you had a good time.
We used to always camp at Laneside in Hope. Pretty central and great for walking the Ridge or nipping over Hollins Cross down to Edale. Never had any trouble or bad service anywhere.

Right, my arse is firmly in gear and looking at driving up to Chesterfield on friday 11thSep ( or possibly the following Friday) and staying until tuesday. Got accomodation sorted in the city centre which seems to be a good base for food, drinks and buying anything that might be needed and using what looks like a decent bus service to get to Matlock,Bakewell,Edale etc. Also want to get to Monsal viaduct , Kinder scout & Ladybower . Does this sound doable? Any tips/advice gratefully accepted.
Thanks

Not sure if you can get public transport to Monsal viaduct but there used to be a bus service ran past the top of Cressbrook dale and it's a nice walk down the dale to Monsal viaduct.

Kinder scout overlooks Edale so if you can get there you can get to kinder scout.

Not sure about Ladybower tho.

OK so accommodation is all booked from this Friday to Monday in Chesterfield centre. I've got a few walks mapped and a couple of places to eat. All I'm looking for now is a decent pub close to the city centre for the evenings( hopefullywith some music) and I'm sorted. Anyone able to assist?

Don’t know Chesterfield. If you’re going scout via edale be sure to go up the grindsbrook clough scramble, down Jacob’s ladder. Requires reasonable fitness. For ladybower you want to cross the lower dam, then head up one of the paths near it onto the ridge line.

Not been out round town in ages so can't help there. :(

Royal Oak on the Shambles - isnt Chesterfields best pub, but it is the oldest and demands a visit. The Barley Mow on Saltergate is pretty decent and the Tramway Tavern is worth a visit.

Barley Mow used to have regular live music as well.

I’ve only visited Chesterfield three times. Twice for football, so didn’t see much else. Once when a roadie for a metal band playing at the Pomegranate Theatre. Though all were decades ago.
