2020/21 Pre season friendlies and fixture list

Think we've announced all those who have actually signed so far.
Fair enough, but last Monday we were told "new signing a day for the next 8 days". So far we've had Debrah, Timlin, Barnes, Taylor, Higgs, White and now a day of rest.

This is why dinosaurs like me prefer to just announce everything as soon as it's sorted instead of dripfeeding the "exciting" social media clickbait bollocks!

Took a few days off the internet for my own sanity, we're only announcing players who's terms have been agreed obviously. Pre-Season's all about deciding who's staying and who's going. I'd expect another batch of players to agree after the VCD and Palace games.

And for the record there's nothing clickbait about the announcements. Nothing misleading in them is there? Just the player thats signing, however bollocks you may find it 😅

I'm not especially bothered how or when signings are confirmed but if you state there will be 8 daily announcements over 8 days, then they dry up after 6 days, people will notice it and speculate about it. It just seems like making a rod for your own back to me if some could have been revealed earlier.

Compared to last season our club must be operating under a greater handicap than anyone else in the division right now, given that our business model relies so heavily on generating matchday income by filling the ground rather than a dodgy benefactor sticking his hand in his pocket to subsidise a team playing to mostly empty terraces. Right now I'm happy to start the season with the bare minimum of numbers with the flexibility to add anyone suitable who become available at a later stage, which is how we picked up the likes of Ferguson and Allassani for the promotion season.

Any thoughts or knowledge on whether the pre-season games behind closed doors will/can be streamed, whether live or post editing?

From what's already been said there will be live radio for most of them and video highlights where possible.
The Spurs being one of the exceptions unless they give the club more access.

Good run around tonight and two cracking goals. Not sure who scored the first but some quick passing led to a shot that was struck hard and dipped over the keeper from an angle.

The second goal was a superb finish by non other than Sanchez Ming, who made a typical run down the right at top speed to get on the end of a perfectly timed through ball.

Game finished 2-2 although a dulwich player had to be substituted off late into the first half through injury. Timlin came on and dictated play for the remainder of the game. Thought he was class, tidy in possession, good range of passing but most importantly was verbal and communicated very well, was calm and clear.

Can’t say much about the first half as I recognised few players but we were much more exciting in the second, mostly due to the inclusion of first team players such as Mills, Timlin, Ming ect...

Interesting evening. It is a completely new squad, bar Barnes, Taylor, and Mills. Monakana was on the bench, but he didn't come on (I think) which I thought was telling.

Not sure that teamsheet is entirely accurate in terms of the players that played - Dean Ager, for example, didn't play tonight. I got the impression that tonight was more about looking at trialists than it was a glimpse at what'll be our starting eleven. Ohman looked steady enough, Timlin was a different class, Sanchez made a huge difference down the right when he came on. Henry scored a cracking goal and looked like a nuisance for the VCD backline. Whoever played left back in the first half looked good, too - think it may have been Brandon Chambers but not sure. Barbosa, Kuagica, and Splatt all played. No Higgs or Quade.

Really good to see everyone again. Fingers crossed for another away friendly against a Step 7 side or lower!

Enjoyable evening pitchside even with so many unrecognisable players. Agree with summary above from RabbleLevi , Timlin and Mills a class above.

By and large the advertised new and retained signings were awol - Higgs, Debrah, Quade, Barnes etc, but I guess there are plenty of preseason games left. Ming a big surprise, can't say I thought we would see him again after being transfer listed by Gav.

VCD were friendly and welcoming, nice set up, little bit of terracing wouldnt go amiss though...

Think the first half line up was Ohman; B Chambers, Splatt, Kuagica, Simpson; Morris (replaced by Timlin around the 20 min mark), Barbosa, Coker, "Marco", Anderson Pinto; Henry.

First 20 we struggled to get going though improved with time but final pass and/or shot wasn't there (bar a rocket against the crossbar from Henry right on half time and a well worked move ending in a disallowed goal from "Marco"). Chambers looked effective at right back (and when played in a front three in the second half), Splatt grew into the game with time and Simpson was tidy. The midfield became more effective when Timlin came on and Barbosa and Anderson Pinto showed signs of attacking flair but without threatening the goal and overall the passing was wayward.

At half time we bought on Ming, Barnes, Debrah and numbers 14 and 19 who were not as advertised on the line up but may have been Ager and Gonzalez. We immediately looked stronger and an excellent move almost straight from the kick off ended up with Barnes playing in Henry who hammered home. Dulwich continued to play the better football with some good wide play from Ming and Barnes and a number of half chances with Barbosa and Anderson Pinto always looking for the ball, Timlin very impressive and a class act in front of the back 4 . There were a number of changes with Splatt and Simpson both coming back on the field into midfield along with Andre Ajiwole down the left slide of defence and Mills replacing Henry up front. We took the lead from a majestic arrowed pass from Splatt (who had a useful cameo in midfield) to Ming who converted with aplomb. Dulwich looked to have wrapped up the game but for an innocuous penalty just on the stroke of 90 mins. Second half we looked the part, I felt and 2-2 was a harsh result.

Overall a good run out. Timlin looked like a very strong and vocal addition and Ming, Barbosa, Chambers, Anderson Pinto, Henry and Simpson looked like they could do a job for us.

Also, classic Sanchez moment, was yelling at Mills to organise all of the attackers during a set piece. First he shouted “Millzy”, didn’t get Mills attention. Then shouted “Danny Mills, get them together, get them together” in a very authoritative tone. Mills looked confused as if being asked to heard sheep, Sanchez looked disgusted after the set piece was taken and went out for a goal kick.
Nice to see Ming back and being vocal on the pitch. There was more talking between players in the second half, something that didn’t happen much last season.

Nice setup they had down there. I was really impressed with the VCD number 12, a stick thin, tiny lad who came on second half to play right centre back in a 3-5-2. His reading of the game was exceptional, brave in the tackle, headed well and used the ball well at his feet. If he could bulk up to Jesse Debrah size he'd be a hell of a player - just might get physically bullied by some. Gavin might do well to ask about him...

Agreed, Timlin was very good for that too and massively comfortable on the ball. Pitch was excellent for playing football on, and a really good 'sports club' setup down there. They had a few players of interest as well, the wee number 12 who I mentioned on the other thread.

I thought they had one or two decent players, too. The very slim no. 7 played really well, IMO. I would definitely check if he's signed a contract at VCD yet.

Out of interest is there a list of our pre season friendlies? Do we have a spare Saturday/Tuesday to squeeze in an away game to Carshalton?
