Urban Clubbing Club

It doesn't sound a million miles from what you describe that theo parrish set, but yeh i doubt it will quite beat it.... sure you will have fun tho!
Earlier there were some nice spacey tunes but I'm not really feeling it, too many cheesy baselines. I might go home and watch the latest series of Ambulance😂.

Well after all that I never made it to the Krust/Orca night in the end, got an invite to a house party and was considering trying to do both but then my friend who'd originally suggested it flaked out and I was getting somewhat flaky vibes from the one friend who was still down, so I ended up sacking it off and just doing the house party instead. Really feeling it the next day now, I think a bit of rest might do me some good.

Maybe i was just in the right mood... also i grew up raving to smokescreen type parties up north, they do like cheesy basslines!

I'm not a very broad church when it comes to music tbf.
But yeah, on the whole found the music too cheesy, too busy, too 'funky', just not enough deepness.
The place was packed and the crowd were loving it.

I’ve not seen him but been aware of the name for a while. Plays house and techno, meant to be v decent. Sometimes plays as part of RPR threesome. Some good sets of his about on line, hangs about with Ricardo Villalobos a bit I think..
I have now relented my previous thumbs down and 🥱 to this.
Firstly because there's nothing else I want to go to for the foreseeable.
Secondly because I think I'll really need a dance after two days of Christmas slothing.
And thirdly because I'm sure there'll be more tunes that appeal to me than last night's Phonox outing, which had me wishing for something more stripped back. And if there isn't, I can simply leave after a couple of hours and walk home.

Tbf my friend who took me to it didn't really like it either, i was way more into it! (Actually part of the reason i didn't go, he tragically died a couple of weeks after... so it was the 2nd to last time i hung out with him ever... so would have felt a bit weird to go without him).

At least you didn't have to travel far! And you can tick it off list.

I'm so sorry to read that, how awful. I'll raise a fistbump to his memory as a fellow good music lover.

Yes, it was no bother as it was early in the day, near home and I had no other plans.

Thank you... Peter was an amazing guy, if any of you were going out in Bristol you might be familiar with his Outlaws nights.... Gabbatoir... loads of crazy art projects. I think this photo sums everything up

rutabowa , had a chat with the ex Mr nags and he and an old friend of ours have both been to a love from outer space and enjoyed it.
So I guess it's just me, and Peter, RIP.

😎👍 yeah, will be a treat after Christmas as the in laws will have left a few hours earlier!

Sounds like those at 'Drumsheds' last Friday had a nightmare

I've never been due to me thinking it had the potential to be everything that is described in the testimonies on that website. I.E mad queues, one way systems, arsehole security, lack of toilets etc

Apparently they were doing more thorough searches which caused huge delays to entering the venue, and if it wasn't for the good nature of the crowd they would have had a crush/stampede/riot on their hands

That is how Motion in Bristol operates. They also have a sniffer dog on the gate.

TBF, I've been to Drumsheds several times when they haven't had a massive multi hour queue / crush outside and it's still been fucking awful.

Those huge hangar/warehouse raves in London have never appealed to me and get less so the older I get. They look almost as shit as London park raves.
I suppose they might be fun if you’re with a big crew, but overzealous security would put a stop to that.

Printworks was fantastic, Drumsheds is a proper soulless hellscape.
Aren’t they run by the same people? Wonder why there’s such a difference.
Perhaps it’s do with licensing conditions in the two different boroughs the venues are in

I only went to Printworks once, it was soulless shit and they wouldn't let me keep my small bag on me.
However good guests, good sound and parties from the day through to midnight made it good enough.
I saw Carl Craig and Moodyman there on the same bill and had a great time.

I thought Printworks was quite shit too, granted i think i only went once for Paul van Dyk, but too many fucking camera phones in the air. At times i felt i was the only person in the vicinity actually dancing rather than looking at and in many cases recording the pretty light screen.

Fortunately I missed this as I like to dance right at the front facing the DJ.
But I am very appreciative of the Phonox phone sticker system.

Two deaths and a stabbing since:
:(

Sounds like those incidents were before the night in question, and they had a licensing hearing the day before the event and given addtional stipulations. Hence strict searches which lead to huge queues getting in. Thankfully the crowd behaved and didn't rush the entrances, like what happened at Brixton Academy a couple of years back.

A gig with a set start time is rather different from a club night though. Personally think Drumsheds sounds like a pretty crap night out even without the queues to get in. Far too large, pretty isolated & terrible queues to get out from what I've heard.
