Your daily cat and kitten news

She's still itchy, started trying with piriton yesterday but need to find a better way to disguise it :D

Have you tried this pill putty? It's the dog's bollocks IMO, Jakey reminds me if I am late with his daily "treat" (ie. his fortekor pill!)
It comes in sort of thick sticks, it's soft and pliable and you just break a bit off and mould it round the pill.

It is made of duck fat which is considered hypoallergenic for cats (whereas chicken is a common cat allergen) so should be OK for giving oral allergy medications.

I can recommend Lickelix - most supermarkets sell it.

Let me know how she gets on with it. I'm gonna start Jocky on a bit of it tonight. How much are you giving her?
Hahaha Likelix - kitty crack as it's better known...well earlier i crushed half a tablet mixed in into the food and covered the lot with a tube of likelix....did the job, now have to wait to see if it has an effect

Carrie has roundly been ignoring the new cat bed and is scared of the wand toy I bought her. She's absolutely glued to the knitted bed at the moment and it's back to the old bit of cotton tape we play with.

She does at least like the new poncey cat food I bought.

On my way to Pets at Home I went past the corpse of the old pet shop it killed...

Not White's on Sydenham Road was it? Pets at Home killed that recently.

I'm half and half on those. It's always a pity to see a local business go down, but a huge number of them sold animals from any old source that you'd be horrified to be associated with. Unless you know they were ethical, I'd save the tears. Not that P@H are loads better, but at least you can trace their supply if you dig.

Before Pets at Home opened in Carmarthen about 20 years ago there was a pet shop that use to sell kittens from god knows where but some of them weren't in good condition. They weren't fussy about who they sold them to either and I wonder how many got bought by kids as they were only £5 each so pocket money prices really. I had to stop myself going in there or I'd have been buying them all up just to save them.

Btw, don't leave the wand toy out for her to play alone with it. They can get wrapped up in them.

Not surprised by the ignoring of the brand new bed!

Update on our timid Tripod ...

Although she will not yet sit on laps, she has walked over them - bribery was cat treats and offers of stroke and will sit next to us on the sofa, recently I've been able to pick her up without her fighting to escape. Gently, gently ...

She has decided that stroking - quite firmly - is acceptable homage.
Also we can see residual movement that indicates she's mentally scratching with the now missing leg and a scritch up and around her ear on that side is deemed helpful ...

Interaction with Bella is also improving, although Bella's still not her friend Ben de-Dog. They frequently end up sharing the sofa with their people.
Bella has mis-appropriated Beauty's cat bed !

I'm in the process of updating their albums on Ipernity.

This is pretty cool (& keenly observed) - the box from a cat tree that comes with instructions how to turn it into a cat house

and has any interest been shown in the cat tree?

(i'm remembering this post...

In an attempt to stop Ziggy chewing up the furniture I bought a fancy scratching post. It hasn't gone well.

The new scratching post arrives. Ziggy goes straight into the box it came in.

Absolutely zero interest shown in the scratching post.

The box is taken away. He settles a distance from his new toy and yawns. I think I've wasted my money again :(

Yeah I'd love to get Carrie a cat tree as she liked the one in her foster home and she's currently shredding a roll of horticultural fleece, but it's an expensive gamble.

I can live with sweeping up bits of fleece...
