anyones' cat been out dancing with witches tonight?

from painting here

Got myself an electric blanket for the girls. Apparently a penny to run an hour? Maybe. But I'm very sure its cheaper than putting the heating on. Its getting good use, especially by Bella

Yep mine is very cheap to run. 6p an hour. Here's a good site to work out the cost.

Fucking fuming. After the college decided to get cats off the cats protection to kill the rabbits ( which never happened because they were smaller than the bloody rabbits) . They have now decided to stop feeding them because ' it's costing them a fortune ' . They now reside mainly in my garden ( they only came to sleep in my outdoor cat house and have minimal food before). 20 volunteer gardeners precious about their plants have effectively made the cats homeless. If I wasn't a plant person I'd go down there and dig there fucking plants up.
:snarl:.

FWIW my parents dainty female silver tabby used to drag home hares and pheasants (including a stunned, not quite dead one so her kitten could practice when they were out once - the resulting blood and feather clean up made it to family legend) so the size difference isn't always an indication that prey will be safe.

I'm stunned the cats protection were a-okay with the plan, they'd have been prompt to point out that vet bills are way higher than a routine pest control contract.

Yeah Calamity1971 , I'd be reporting the college to Cats Protection and RSPCA and make sure they're blacklisted from "adopting" any more cats - or any animals, to be honest. What a bunch of pricks.

Considering how fussy rescues can be when re-homing their charges, it's baffling that some institution could just get a bunch of cats with no clear funding stream for their care.

Anyway, here's a story to make Calamity1971 feel better about corporations employing cats. I worked for a company which supplied products to Pedigree Pet food. Once, there was a rush order and Pedigree arranged a tour of the factory to everyone who was on that shift. They came back and told us all about it. They have office cats and dogs who are super pampered (no pets on the factory floor obviously, it's super clean in the factory part) and they also have wild rabbits in the front gardens and the gardeners have to work around them because a choice was made, the rabbits won :) (fairly obvious when you consider the optics of despatching Thumper when flogging a range of rabbit pet food).

cats protection do seek semi-outdoor homes for feral cats who aren't ever going to become 'pet' cats, but branch local to me says

If you can offer one or more of these cats a home, then we only require that you agree to be responsible for their health and welfare for their lifetime. This involves a meal every day and regular treatment for fleas and worms plus a warm place where they can sleep and shelter from the weather.

i'd agree with talk to RSPCA or cats protection about it.

depends whether you want to end up as carer for this kitty collective - if college has abandoned them, don't know if there's any action CP can take against them (don't think they have the same powers / set up to bring prosecutions like RSPCA do) but they may be able to try and assist in re-homing them.

Do anyone else's cats sometimes duck them when attempting strokes?
Kizzy does now and then! Moody

i sometimes get that with next door's cat. other times she requests attention.

Vic does but he’s a gentleman of very particular habits. Before he eats, he demands a certain amount of stroking and attention but once his optimal level of affection is reached he will duck and even swipe at me. Lil’ Bob will take all the strokes going - and then some. His “love tank” will never be full enough.

Contact Cats Protection. The College probably haven't bothered to.

Tried that. Got nowhere. It was cats protection that put them there in the first place. One of the volunteer gardeners is a friend of the cp woman who gave them the cats, and they weren't feral.
When I rang the woman to say their care wasn't being met she said 'if she took them away she would euthanaise them'.
Reported her to head office and nothing happened.
She even used the cp north east Facebook page to send abuse at 1am in the morning. She's hated by every independent cat charity around here.
