WTF is that in the sky?!! (Noctilucent clouds over Brixton!)

I've edited the thread title so that:

(a) it's more accurate and
(b) I can pretend to be all knowledgeable about Noctilucent clouds

:D

What an exciting thread!
Honestly, I leave Brixton for five minutes and miss all the excitment..
Wonderful photo, slightly ominous looking thing I must say...

Little bit too hard core for me, but I'm well chuffed to have witnessed that weird cloud last night.
,.
Pah!
You don't fool us, all that Northern Lights bit was a ruse, you're drumming up business for

Noctilucent Anoraks 'R' Us , this summer in Dundee, aren't you :D

Seriously, this is a real event http://www.nlcnet.co.uk/NLC2006/

Not that I can talk, with my love of radio anoraking

And how long was the photo onscreen for?!

In case anyone missed it, they asked viewers to email in their opinions, so it will be back on again at 6.30pm.

Nice one Peter!
It was on screen for 26 seconds

I saw it on the news! somebody was talking about it and I thought "oh, that's strange that was on urban" and then they showed a picture form urban on the news.

it was like urban on the telly.

well done.

Yay!!

I've seen these in the north of Scotland a few times, though never that impressive. Maybe send the pic to Sky at Night ed?

Ha! Peter Cockcroft agrees with me that they are noctilucent clouds :)

The reason they shine at night is that they're high enough to still be catching the sun (which at the summer solstice is not that far below the horizon) long after other clouds.

It is possibly the Sun - which is in the North-North-East at the minute - lighting up some very, very, high cloud?

Sorry for my unnaccountable lapse from polysyllabicity :D - noctilucent, that be :) Night-lit clouds, loike.
