Wristwatches, watches and watch-like gadgets

Sad times guys. I had to return my Sumo as the power reserve was only 10 hours when fully charged.
I'm a bit pissed; this is the 2nd Seiko in 12 months that has had QC issues, and both with the 6R35 movement.
I was expecting more for a watch that costs over £900 - it's double the price of the original Sumo ffs.

Going back to European watches for now - unless its a Grand Seiko.

Worth a read, comparing Laco, Stowa and Dekla.

Must admit I'm a real Stowa fan. :)
TBF, when I bought my Stowa it was in that price range. Damned fine value. Not sure I'd pick up a replacement for lossage at what they cost now.
Edit: That's for an Antea though, not a Flieger. I'm not sure what the competition is like for a simple, bauhaus-style watch.

I think Stowa have upped their pricing across all of their time pieces and there's still a demand (2-3 months wait for Fliegers for example).

Has anyone bought a watch from the mainland since Brexit? Is there a 20% duty plus handling charges (2%)?

I have an Antea 1919 like this, a Flieger Klassic and a bronze Marine Original. All had the usual great Stowa customer service.

As far as the VAT goes, from memory it's deducted from the price on the Stowa site, but payable to HMRC on delivery. Don't quote me on that, as it was some time ago ordering from them. :)

I was close to buying an Antea Arabic from someone in a watch forum but wasn't sure about the lugs. I need to try it before buying.

Yes, I have not bought any watches from the EU since Brexit. Not sure if its worth it, but I am looking for one more piece - a dress watch, art deco / Bauhaus style - in the affordable range cos I want to wear it and not think about it.
Interestingly, there's an extra 20% off Longines Sales items on Beaverbrooks.

Jesus, I just looked and it's treble what I paid for an Antea 13 years back. Though it's not extra for the blue screws now. :D

My ETA 2824-2 Antea has always lost about 10 seconds a day, no matter how it's adjusted. So I'm not especially impressed with the Swiss movement over anything else.

Mentioning art-deco, have a look at the Farer Mansfield.
Refreshingly different, nice Swiss movement and made in tiny numbers.

Saw a picture of one recently with the plumb strap and it looked gorgeous. :)

Some of their other range may appeal too.

I've just ordered it.
I must get 'permission' from the missus to buy another watch.
She said the Mansfield was 'different' to my "samey-samey'' collection.

That's it now. No more space in my watch boxes.

I am seriously feeling guilty for buying it.
Then I look at this, and it doesn't feel so bad.

Delivery was mega quick.
I ordered it on the grey strap as I wanted it to 'go with' my clothes (T shirt/ Jeans or smart/ casual).
I am not sure about this watch - need to absorb it - and see if I will keep (Farer has a decent returns policy).
The crown and winding action was very smooth - felt so much better than the Speedy.
So far, so good.

The Farer sits similarly to an Apple Watch and protrudes at the centre.
It doesn't hug my 7 inch (average size) wrists well.
(ETA it sits better after a day. It was the strap that took time to break in)

Its still a nice piece though and my wife wants it now.

Here it is on her wrist.

Interesting piece, wears well as the JC version is MASSIVE.
1220m ?

ETA - ignore me. didn't realise the sea dweller came with the cyclops date thing.
Nice, and makes the Sub look positively bargain basement

Ennit.
I got the call from the AD and went mental selling off some of my older pieces (I sold my 3570 for 3.5 times the value I purchased it for - madness. Now I just wished I bought a shitload of 2nd hand Speedies when they were dirt cheap.)!

The Sea Dweller is pretty cool and I will probably keep it.
I don't mind the cyclops.
The teeth on the bezel is aggressively sharp. Could cut someone with it! No jokes. It feels more like a tool.
Yes the WR is ridiculous but it wears smaller than the PO or Pelagos that have a lesser WR.
I quite like.
