Worst Films

Commercial or even critical success doesn't make a film good. Loads of shite movies are fawned over by critics and the public have appalling taste that is not to be trusted.

No but by any standard a Time to Kill or Shakespeare in Love is by no means the worst film released in their respective years.

Patch Adams, The Robin Williams comedy oncology film. A film so bad, that I tried to walk out on it, but the steward refused to open the door as we were 40,000 feet up. The bastard.

And Nicholas Cage's and Neil La Bute re-make of The Wicker Man. The original had some terrible, wonderful flaws, but had charm, intelligence and some wonderful performances (especially by Edward Woodward). The re-make carefully excised all that was (often unintentionally) good, but kept a few famous lines from the original to make a hammy, boring and misogynist piece of expensive pap.

Gravity was utter bollox... but it scores 8/10 on IMDB.
Either rent-a-review were working overtime or the public really are a bunch of dicks.

It might be if that's all you've seen. They are both terrible movies and they are better known than some dtv turkey that no one ever saw.

Shakespeare in Love; it's a funny silly romcom - I don't know why everyone's keen to dismiss it; there's nothing wrong with it.

But they are demonstrably worse films released the same year as both these films.

1998 (Shakespeare in Love) gave us; The Avengers, Godzilla, & Spice World, to name 3.

1996 (A Time to Kill), Striptease, Barbwire, The Island of Dr Moreau, A Alan Smithee film, & Theodore Rex.

You are really telling me a Time to Kill is worse than Whoopi Goldberg and a crime fighting talking dinosaur?

I couldn't tell you as I have not seen it. But A Time To Kill remains one of the worst films I've seen.
Of the listed films from 1996, I have only seen A Time To Kill and The Island Of Dr Moreau. A Time To Kill is worse.
A film's quality is never demonstrable! There's nothing objective about rating movies.
And you can't expect people to reserve judgement until they've seen ALL THE MOVIES.

yeah but you're rating TTK as the shittest cos its racist and patronising shite- it was however well shot, budgeted etc.

Barbwire didn't even have a proper story to be offensive. And spice world?

Being well shot or big budgeted does not guarantee quality.
And we all have our own criteria about what makes a film good or bad.
So many 'bad' films are never boring - they're fun and funny: we are entertained by the bad acting, script and direction.
Surely a worse film is one that makes you want to claw your eyes and ears out in annoyance and frustration despite being beautifully shot.

The one where Robin Williams goes to heaven/limbo etc

That one where Robin Williams is a boring mopey robot that turns into a human

That one where Robin Williams cures sleeping people with laughter

That one where Robin Williams dresses up as a Scottish drag artist to nonce kids (I may be misremembering some plot points there)

Titanic always ranks very highly in 'worst film of all time' polls, but this is at the top of my 'shit list':
