Wood Green chitter-chatter..

I don't remember any consultation. We only heard about because my partner read something online.

Can you remember roughly when it happened?

2 and a half years ago, maybe?
I remember there being 2 things, one handwritten signature thing, one online.

Sloppy work, considering we lived much further away from bbl than you...

Dave Morris is a star for what he's done for Lordship Rec alone. I know he's also involved in Broadwater Farm but won't pretend to know much about that - other than going to a film evening at the hub about the aftermath of the 'riots' he put on..

I'm pretty sure I read about the consultation on Haringey Online (I know...) but I might have had a leaflet.

I read that as Dave having put the riots on, which didn't surprise me.

Watching the Haringey Council debate on LTNs (so you don't have to..)

Labour councillor comments:
  • Two labour councillors note unintended traffic displacement - one from Enfield into Haringey, the other on Belmont Road
  • One councillor very vocal on the crap implementation in the first two weeks
  • Impact on bus journey times a concern
  • Impact of A10 cars coming through the borough - Bruce Grove A10, Tottenham High Road.
Climate leader responding... Hakata..
  • All use cars - London most congested city
  • Repeats LTN study - "no increase on traffic on boundary roads" (Islington)
  • Knows that this is "hard to believe at the moment"
  • Highlights through traffic as problem in Borough
  • LTNs just part of what we need to do - expand pavements, affordable bike scheme, less congested roads will cut journey times, electric charging points
  • Claims consultation was okay - (within LTNs) - only comments on engagement within LTN
Interesting 'cause all the stuff about the A10, through traffic, and traffic displacement is what I've been saying on Twitter - much to the annoyance of some.

Oh, and the deputations, seemed you know, normal people from Haringey, not cranks or obsessives....

Interesting that there's no mention of improving cycle lanes on any main roads by Hakata, the affordable bike scheme amounts to bugger all - I've checked it out, and electric charging points just encourage a different form of cars...

Its's also notable that they continue to focus on 'boundary roads' while they know that larger scale traffic displacement is happening - built into their own evaluation plans, and acknowledged in relation to Enfield/Haringey - Enfield LTNs pushed traffic into Haringey.

Cholmeley Lodge has been used in a few period film shots I think.
I've been inside Whitehall Lodge in Muswell Hill, a friend of a friend was living there, the flat actually belonged to his mother - very nice entrance hall, wood panelled walls.

Not strictly Wood Green, but this may be of interest to some on this thread

Gutted to find my local Chinese takeaway permanently closed tonight... been going there 21 years. There were some warning signs like early closures, and the food boxes getting smalller... but still.

The owner didn't do the Deliveroo/Just Eat thing.. so I expect trade twindled.. :(

A few months ago the local fish and chip shop closed as well..

Picture plundered from Facebook.. High Road in late 70s... looking up from Turnpike Lane end towards Shopping City.

Most of the comments on facebook are referring to it's decline, and how the areas 'rough' now.. I mean I know it's not 'pretty', but I can't say I've ever felt unsafe or experienced any trouble in High Road. :hmm:

I used to live in Palmers Green/Wood Green in the 70s and remember it like this.

I was up there recently for the first time in a long time and thought it was a lot more gentrified than when I lived near there in 94/95.

Hehe - well there's a load of posh young professional type flats being built on the west side between High Road and the railway line. And athough from their marketing brochures you'd barely know that Wood Green/Tunpike Lane existed (as opposed to Crouch End and Muswell Hill which they bang on about at great length), I think it's already impacting the High Road. Wood Green has also always attracted the middle class BAME..

Isn't there a consultation about the next round of the railway line flats?

I know people who moved to Wood Green - "we live in Alexandra Park" - just because they've always been in North London but can't afford anywhere else. the usual story. so it's definitely on people's radar who wouldn't have heard of it or gone that far out 5/10 years ago.

Looks great!
Must go and have a look sometime.

I'm in the are on Sunday so will report back if I make it there.

If you notice this man at Bruce Grove station, please do let the authorities know, as the search appears to have gone very quiet in past three months:

I heard something about the refurbishment of Bruce Grove station but I don't know what's actually happened. Anyone?
