Why the Guardian is going down the pan!

Genuine question, TopCat, but why specify 'woman' here? Sure, in this case the article was written by a woman but plenty of their pointless articles are written by men. I'm not sure I've ever seen you specifically mention the sex of the writer in those cases? Just comes across as a bit weird really.
The Guardian has a history of essentially celebrating everything a woman can do, good, bad, mundane and inane. It’s a fairly regular theme.

It has a history/theme of publishing nonsense articles by women AND men surely?

The regular theme to your comments is that you don't seem to like women much/that you feel men are hard done by while women aren't. Which is you know fine if that's how you feel but I just wondered if you're aware that's how you come across?

It’s not how I wish to come across. My view is specific to the Guardian really and a political position that they take which roughly equals women good men bad.

Okay. I don't think it's just when you're talking about/reacting to the Guardian though.

to be fair, they do publish articles by adrian chiles who portrays men in a very bad light every time he puts hand to keyboard
He may portray himself on a very bad light, but I'm not sure about men as a category.

And whether it's deliberate or conscious or not, there does seem to be a greater tendency to view the actions of one woman as being somehow illustrative of women in general than happens with men.

I actually think The Guardian online is a fairly good website and free too, unlike many newspaper websites which are behind paywalls.

Sure, it's "good" if you compare it to all the other daily newspapers' websites, but as all the others are either full of right wing shit or mindless celeb bullshit, then it's not a high bar.

I think there's a place on a news website for the kind of column Chiles writes, which is so banal it's practically an art form. Nepotism aside, there's so much worse on there. Why does Polly Toynbee get to spout her predictable and insightful recycled material until her death bed?

The persistence of Toynbee is one of the great mysteries of the guardian. (It's not really a mystery, I'm pretty sure she hangs in the right social circles).

She's basically the theoretical beating heart of the Guardian .. Some kind of Fabian royalty... I expect the surname came in handy at some point

I'm old enough to remember the Independent starting out and giving it a try as it was a fresh design and pitched as not a right wing rag, plus thought it might be less emetic than the Guardian despite all the self-congratulation. All I can recall is they used to have a vaguely amusing cartoonist. Certainly no News on Sunday.

No more News On Sundays please. A shite read that one.
