Genuine question, TopCat, but why specify 'woman' here? Sure, in this case the article was written by a woman but plenty of their pointless articles are written by men. I'm not sure I've ever seen you specifically mention the sex of the writer in those cases? Just comes across as a bit weird really.

He may portray himself on a very bad light, but I'm not sure about men as a category.

And whether it's deliberate or conscious or not, there does seem to be a greater tendency to view the actions of one woman as being somehow illustrative of women in general than happens with men.

I'm old enough to remember the Independent starting out and giving it a try as it was a fresh design and pitched as not a right wing rag, plus thought it might be less emetic than the Guardian despite all the self-congratulation.
