Whisky recommendations?

I bought the Aldi speyside last year, finally opened it last night. I don’t really drink very often, and don’t profess to be a whisky expert. But I enjoyed it, as previously only had Islay which I find far too peaty.

I’m going to pass through an airport duty free next month so thought I might try to pick up another one to complement the one I have, can anyone suggest another decent Speyside or perhaps an interesting alternative that won’t break the bank

Agree that Aberlour is a good reliable choice. The only time I tried Chivas Regal - the standard one - I thought it was rank. Like, I was surprised by how bad it was, given that it is heavily advertised as a premium brand. It made me think it is like Ferrero Rocher - one of those things that pretends to be premium.

Sent the wife in for a tasting whilst we were on Arran and as it was her birthday I offered to get her what she wanted from the shop on the way out. Expensive, but she really liked the 25 year old one which was sadly/happily out of stock. The one in the middle is the Corriecravie.

On holiday in Corfu last week and managed to get through a litre of duty free Bushmills 10 year old sherry cask. Delicious.

Also tried Teeling on the flight home, which was nice.
Just ordered a bottle, a £29 Amazon deal. :)

My new favourite whisky (for the time being!) is Nc'Nean organic. Mrs.Griff picked up a bottle for me after reading an article about the founder and have to say I was more than surprised with how delicious it is.
Lovely and floral under your hooter and a wonderful delicate taste.

Hoping for another bottle for Christmas. :)

She also got some of their gin, but haven't tried that yet.

Mrs Forward had to pick me up from the Leicester Whisky Dram Fest - cos I'm a bit pished. It was a really good event. After too many samples to count (hic) I bought a Port Askaig 8yr (Islay) and an Elements of Islay Cask Edition (blended) plus an Evan Williams Black Label bourbon. All of which were my fave samplings on the night. Sláinte!

I went with a friend to the Manchester whisky festival in 2022. He hammered the samples, whereas I paced myself a bit better.

He ended up being sick in the street while staggering home and I had to take him up to his flat, where he collapsed on the sofa, so I covered him with a duvet and put a bucket next to him.

Good night! 🤣

There were lots of lovely single malts, obvs, but the surprise of the night was some rather nice Filey Bay whiskey from Yorkshire!

Been mostly drinking Auchentoshan (American Oak) recently. Very nice. Just been given a bottle of Tamnavulin Double Cask too.

Finally tried The Lakes Distillery's 'The One'. Nah. Very overpriced and unremarkable.

(My apologies though, I've been distracted with a journey through France's cremants in recent months.)

This is my current selection of Asian whisky. The Nikka Session is light and very easy to drink, the Taketsuru might be the most well-balanced whisky I've ever tried, and the Kavalan is the most delicious of the lot, tastes just amazing ...it's my second favourite whisky of all I'd say.

Get yourself a bottle of Blanton’s…

I mentioned my surprise tax rebate the other week. Guess what I spent it on?

The one on our right might be a bog standard drink, but what a bottle! I'll be (sadly) saving that one.

The Loch Lomond is the Whisky Exchange's whisky of the year - a bargain at £80.

matured in three types of American oak casks for 18 years, creating its full-bodied and fruity character. The nose brings aromas of green apples, grapefruit, honeysuckle and rich oak, while the palate is filled with mouthwatering notes of baked apples, toffee, tobacco leaves and gooseberries, with gentle wisps of smoke lingering in the finish.

On holiday in Greece the other week and tried Four Roses bourbon for the first time. Lovely over lashings of ice. :)

This bottle arrived today. :)

So at £18.99 a bottle, this absolutely superb. It was slightly more expensive than the passable single malts so thought it was worth taking a chance on and it was the right one. I think I'll get at least one more. I'm still kicking myself I didn't get a few more of the Japanese one they did a few years back that sold out very quickly.

Been enjoying a bit of lidls speyside while watching a film. My drinks cabinet is in the living room so don’t miss any film if I get a drink plus easier on the bladder

Think the bottle had been untouched this year until this week. Will probably get another bottle when it runs out.

I've not had Lidls but the Aldi Speyside is pretty decent. It's totally unremarkable, but is very smooth and pleasant for the price, and if I was to spend more I'd want something with more character. It's certainly a huge step up from something like Bells for not much more money.

After the success with the other Aldi blend, I thought I'd try this. It's drinkable neat (which is how I prefer whisky) and probably still better than Bells, but not by enough to buy it again. It seemed have half decent reviews.
