Where can I quickly get humane mouse traps?

I love the fact that someone who I have never had any conversation with in the entire 20 years I have been here has waded in to tell me that traps won't work, can I ask what your professional pest control credentials are fuck seals ??
I have no professional credentials. This is stating the bleeding obvious.

You do have to remember to keep checking whether the humane traps have caught anything by the way. I've caught a dozen mice over the winter with a combination of the humane/instant traps. I keep one of the Little Nippers out of the way of the dog to check whether there are any recent entries. I noticed that the cheese had gone from it the other night :(.

I was thinking of saying Could you put one of the Little Nippers in a cat-proof box but then thought again there's probably no such thing.

Yeah I forgot to check a humane trap once, and I don't think that was a humane end for the poor trapped creature :(

I just want to know where around E13 or E16 I can go and buy some humane traps today, I didn't ask for anyone's views or advice on it tbh.

I am sorry if some of you took it for an asking for advice thread and then were rudely rebuked by me, but that wasn't the question I asked.

Peace and love to you all.

Ah, I live in Cornwall so can't help, apols.

Epona. Read your own thread. Your infestation is beyond what traps will pick off. You need to up your game.

Please read the question I asked (where can I buy humane traps near me in E13/E16), if you cannot answer that then stop posting, it isn't helpful.

Robert Dyas, Canary Wharf (ok, it's e14 but you said Canning Town and I used to walk that regularly) or you can have two for free if you know anyone who's passing Romford

Trying to avoid a crowded tube or bus journey anywhere (thank you for the offer though!), the most worrying thing is that the basic ones look to be around £5 each and I need at least 6 (that is the cost of a months worth of food for us atm)

This has all happened since Radar died, he was the bestest mouser - he didn't play with them, he grabbed them and instinctively put his paw on their hind quarters and yanked their head upwards with his mouth, breaking their neck and instantly killing them. We occasionally had mice (and quickly dead mice) but never had a mouse problem while he was alive.

(And I do think Radar was a massive difference to pest control in our block, he had mouse detection and capture superpowers and since he died it has all gone to shit)

The issue with getting an exterminator in is that we live in an absolute shithole of mess which isn't helpful but OH views it as bullying/nagging if I try to get him to clear out some of his piles of shit :( I don't want to involve the council if possible because time limits will be put on us doing x y and z which may not actually help but they could pin the issue on us (unfairly).
If you live in a "shithole of mess", any trapping or killing of mice is only going to provide a very temporary solution. You may even be responsible for the block infestation. Until you deal with that you're just pissing into the wind. As far as bait being removed from snap traps is concerned, use pastes rather than solids (Nutella, jam, honey, etc). I had excellent results with small pieces of bacon too, but you need to make sure the rind is firmly attached to the bait hook or they'll just nick it.

If there's nothing suitable in the shops there is an intriguing variety of DIY humane trap ideas out there - the non-humane version seem to be similar except with water in the buckets, etc.

If the problem is truely as bad as you say then it does sound right tbh.

Is an additional new cat an option? :hmm:

No new cat, it would stress my old boys and this place is as much theirs as it is mine. I might consider rehoming my husband to a very good and caring home though, if someone can take his 20 tons of clutter too. (I love him but sometimes I just want to hire a skip and then claim I don't know where all his accumulated crap went, he probably wouldn't even miss most of it for a few years but it wouldn't be pretty when he did!)

the picture of the cat with a shotgun was brilliant

I want to hire the carpenter that made that beautiful mouse hole :D

With one of those live catch things you could start a petshop. Sounds like you have a good supply of mice.

It seems as though I owe my Jakey an apology.

He left me a small, alarmingly soggy and slightly mangled grey gift earlier (where I was likely to step on it, which I did, naturally).

I felt a bit sorry for the thing, it was intact but looked kind of like you would imagine a mouse would look after being slowly gummed to death by a toothless cat  :(

He now has one cornered under the sofa (or at least he thinks he does, I'm not fully sure I trust his judgement, he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer in all fairness) - he was in prowl mode staring under the sofa when I went out to the supermarket and is still staring under the sofa now.

Them mieces wouldn't last here, our cat is a killer .. a killer I say.

Aye, our Radar was a very efficient killing machine - he didn't play with them either, he would just grab it, put his paw on its hind quarters and its head in his mouth and yank upwards to instantly break its neck. Anything he caught probably didn't even have time to panic, it was always very quick.

Unfortunately ours likes to toy with creatures it has caught, merciless .. cruel .. I don't approve .

Yeah this is why I feel sorry for any that Jakey catches, he can't even bite them as he is mostly without his gnashers so it is the opposite of quick.

If I see him with one I take it from him and depending upon how far gone it looks I will either release it in the little park down the road or... :(

If they are grabbing the food without setting off the trap, try putting some extra weight on the trap, such as a penny, to make it more sensitive.
I used a live trap a couple of months ago and needed a pound coin on the trigger. Peanut butter on bread did the trick though,
