Are you back at work?

i don't want to ask questions about your circumstances on here, but are you sure about the 'not eligible for any help' bit?

Benefits Calculator - entitledto - independent | accurate | reliable | www.entitledto.co.uk may be worth a look.

DWP approach these days tends to be to refuse as many benefits applications as possible in the hope people will just go away rather than challenge their decisions.
Yes, I'm entitled to absolutely nothing. It feels a bit like being punished for being careful. But could be worse.

I've got an interview with an agency for cover work. The recruiter said there is high demand and I should be able to get going right after half term. A bit anxious about it, but anything is better than this.
Not to piss on this but where I work, cover supervisor is about the worst job you can have. But I work in an inner city London school where behaviour is not good. Wouldn't feel threatened at all, just kids would not listen and be super noisy.

I know it's not a good job, but there are no jobs right now. It's through an agency, so if I really hate it, I don't have to continue.

I have got 12 years of teaching experience so hopefully have half a chance.

Oh you've definitely got a chance. And depending on the school, it's might be ok. Not all schools have rubbish behaviour.

Still working, had a slight increase to my hours over the last few weeks so I'm now on 21 hours per week. In practice I usually end up doing a bit more than that.

A huge part of my work relies on stuff like Black Friday to make money so I am really hoping it's not a complete shitshow as last weeks was the worst on record and some people ended up leaving.

That’s interesting, what line of work do you do?

I’ve worked supply in the past in a number of London schools - about four years of mostly day to day supply when I was also an actor. Behaviour varies but you’re not trying to achieve the same thing as their regular teacher. I quite enjoyed it, and it made me realise I wanted to come back to teaching.
Only subjects I really struggled to cover were PE and German. Everything else was quite fun to have a little taste of.

I’m currently wfh full-time. I would prefer a mixed economy of some days in the office but my work is pretty confidential so I’d be sitting in a room by myself given social distancing rules. All my meetings are on Zoom so I might as well stay at home. I feel lucky to have a relatively secure job and our redundancy terms are way better than statutory.

Most of my new job now seems to be fire fighting and dealing with issues that my predecessors hadn't bothered with from my home work area with only the occasional site visit to check on jobs for quotes and then site supervision for the more involved small Works jobs. Totally different to what the role was meant to be but at least it's a job.

I have managed to set up second (work) computer (it's one of these SSD ones so pretty tiny) so my keyboard / mouse / screen can switch between it and my own computer - and it worked first time.

whether it will all work in the morning is of course questionable.

and have had to spend a chunk of this afternoon clearing some of the crap that's built up around my alleged workstation at home so that

a) it doesn't look like a tip on 'teams' meetings

b) so i've got room to do actual work as well as just use the computer.

unfortunately webcams have improved a lot, so i wouldn't be able to get away with this

(and hmm at being 26 years behind dilbert with technology - i only invested in a webcam this year so i could do online job interviews...)

Well, just had "the meeting"

Given that there'd be a MASSIVE misunderstanding about taking holidays over until next year (I've managed to amass 24 days unused)

We need 4 days for Christmas

So we're all required to use holiday . . . which is fair enough

I'll now have 1st two weeks of November and December off and then work the other time - resulting in NO loss of pay . . . which is nice

Wonder that next year will bring . . . I mean, it's only kicking the can down the road a bit but . . . hey, I'll take the money

have survived the first day of wfh.

managed to completely bugger the screen settings on my own computer with the box of tricks that allows screen to be used by both work's and my computers.

think i have just about stuck it all back together.

hmph.

now trying to decide if it's worth the effort of claiming £ 1.20 a week off the income tax for wfh-ing.

I was temporarily stood down yesterday (Weds 23rd)..

A person at work who (it seems) developed severe Covid symptoms (test result imminent), was not someone I worked anywhere at all close to, the bosses reassured me :)

But they were beng ultra-cautions and sending a fair few people home. What happens next depends on the person's test result. If negative, I'll be back on Monday -- that is if they know by then**.

If the person tests positive, I have no idea whether I'd be sent for a test myself, or simply just told to stay away for longer, as an associated person

**I am -- a bit guiltily but sod it!! -- hoping that I get Monday off as well as today! :p

Officially, almost all of us Civil Servants are meant to work through the Welsh lockdown -- two weeks.
We're classed as 'essential workers' and will be given letters on letterheaded paper, naming us, to prove our essentiality :hmm:

To both my employer's and my surprise, the relevant person on the bus tested negative :)

Therefore (and unexpectedly really), I'm back at work from today

I'm going in a bit late on this first day though, because sod it! :D

No real issues with going back, but it WAS properly nice to get two additional days off for a five-day lie-in rather than a three-day lie-in weekend

Glad that the person is not as sick as we were assuming, too :)

Self employed delivery driver contracting for Amazon. Got back to the UK nearly 4 weeks ago and needed 1) Transport 2) a job I can wear shorts to work 3) cash

Fits all 3 :)

How are you finding it so far?

Still luckily enough to be fully employed, as is my wife. She works from home full time and last 6 weeks I’ve been coming into the office 4 days a week, I also now WFH on Saturday mornings which I can either claim a day in lieu or OT. Very lucky boy indeed.

One of our best mates was made redundant y/day and my sis in law will be redundant from Friday.

I ticked 'something else' because bar just over 2 weeks off after a positive covid test i've been on the office right through

My previous vote was ages ago. I'm Civil Service, in an 'essential' service. We have been open one day a week for the duration but are reoprning 5 days from Monday. Was there the promised two weeks notice? Was there fuck. Not looking forward to it...or am I? I can't tell anymore. It's not helped by all the awful things people joke about the Civil Service all happening all the time. Pfft.
