What is the meaning of the meaning of life?

"Life does not exist": The deceptively tricky task of defining life Yet we are cruising along in our Elan Vitals.
What modern science has taught us is that life is not a property of matter.

Physicists and chemists see very intimately what the rest of us who think life exists cannot: there is no magic transition point where a molecule or collection of molecules is suddenly “living.”

Life is the vaporware of chemistry: a property so obvious in our day-to-day experience—that we are living—is nonexistent when you look at our parts.

If life is not a property of matter, and material things are what exist, then life does not exist.

Blindsight asked the question 'what if sentience, higher cognitive processes, the mind as self- is an aberration and encumbrances, what if there are creatures many times more advanced and predatory than us who had no need for it at all?'

What is the meaning of "advanced" in this context?

A malevolant entity invaded us in the first half of the twentieth century or possibly much earlier, is hostile and is feeding off our life force.

We are now in a crude simulated reality and are probably living the same day over and over. But progressively shitter.

Why would they simply not kill us?

We have several advantages. Our mammalian humanity and mastery of physical matter.

Our potential and innate superiority.

The galactic ombudsmen envy our mountains and skylines.

And our sabotaged inclination for collective co-operation and strength in numbers

We teach kids that you're alive if you can move, grow, reproduce yourself, release energy from fuel using oxygen, produce waste products, and respond to your environment.

Trouble is, by that rubric fire is alive.

E2a: That article is a bit daft though. Obviously emergent properties are a real thing. One car can't be a traffic jam, so it's impossible to make a traffic jam out of cars. That brilliant deduction isn't going to get you to work any faster in the mornings though is it?

Most of the matter of the universe is invisible and indetectable in any kind of understandable way to us.

Did you know that all visible matter is just a mass of empty molecules? If you had a stone that was 100% density it would be so heavy you would have no chance of picking it up and if you could and subsequently dropped it could drop right through the earth. Something like that.

Condensed like a neutron star.
