Exclusive: How a Labour MP evicted a homeless mother of two

A senior UK official working on UK policy in countering kleptocracy told the FT: “The challenge here is that ‘I got a gift from this guy out of gratitude because my politically exposed family helped him out’ is the sort of account . . . that we spend our time telling banks is not good enough.”

yeah this doesn't really look good for her

What I don't get is why they gave her this specific role of all roles.

They must have known during the candidate approval process Labour does that she was politically exposed. So even if no real concerns enough to be a bit more careful.

Labour people, gossips on Twitter and newspapers have consistently raised generals concerns since at least 2017 too.

So why not give her something less of a hostage to fortune??

Sometimes I think the need to protect "the up and coming" names overrides the need to do proper checks or investigations.

Siddiq refers herself for probe by standards adviser

Treasury Minister Tulip Siddiq has referred herself to the PM's standards adviser after controversy over her links to her aunt's political movement in Bangladesh. It comes after the minister was named last month in an investigation into claims her family embezzled infrastructure funding in the country.

Siddiq had faced growing calls for an investigation after reports in recent days she had lived in London properties linked to allies of her aunt, Sheikh Hasina, who was ousted as Bangladeshi prime minister in August. In her letter to Sir Laurie Magnus, who polices standards among government ministers, she said: "I am clear that I have done nothing wrong."

She hasn't had a lot of luck keeping track of her various property interests

Minister investigated over London property income

Former Labour Brighton and Hove MP Ivor Caplin, chair of the Jewish Labour Movement (JLM), has been arrested on suspicion of sending indecent images and attempting to meet a minor. A group of 'paedophile hunters ' apprehended him . He was suspended from the Labour Party due to "serious allegations" last year, despite that he made regular appearances on GB news .

Just surprising it took so long.

Why on earth did anyone in Labour think that their pal who's aunt was a long term PM of another country, who had for many years quite a bad international reputation for corruption and brutality, would be a good fit for this role?

They could gave given her almost any other junior role and it wouldn't have been anywhere near as bad as this looks. Regardless of whether she's guilty or innocent of any wrongdoing.

Because they regard corruption and brutality as good qualifications.
