What are you playing at the moment?

Had a blast playing Destiny 2 again last night, such a good game if you don't over play it...but right now everything I play feels like treading water until Space Marine 2...:hmm:

Currently, a couple of us are playing The Final Shape most Wed nights (PS5). Jump in if you’re brave enough. (Space Marine 2 next)

Console
Astro Bot (PS5) - bursting with fun and an absolute joy to play. Looks like we have another PS5 cracker and potential GOTY contender on our hands.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape (PS5)(Online co-op) - stunning! Bungie are firing on all cylinders with this expansion. I played through all of the first game with the same mate when it released and now we’re nearing the end of this second game all these years later. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed every second of the Destiny universe.

VR
Gran Turismo 7 (VR2) - finally got around to completing all World Circuits. Jaw-dropping realism and without question, one of the most exhilarating VR experiences to be had.
Walkabout Mini Golf (VR2)(Online co-op) - we revisited some of the older courses to try and better our scores. (All base courses are available to play with a PS+ Premium sub.)

Handheld
Deadlock (Deck) - the much-anticipated new game from Valve. I quite liked what I played of the Playtest.

Starfield which is worth sticking with imo. . Ok most of it is Bethesda go here , go there upgrade this or that, and I haven't really got into the mining side of it . However the plot has a few surprising turns , some cracking weapons, the combination of flight and land battles are good and exploring the planets is fun.

Got X4 from that recent sale. I played a LOT of X2 and Terran Conflict a long time ago so I kind of know what's involved. Even so. Jesus christ. Docking has to be pixel perfect, I can't get the controller to work in any way and I have no idea how to do anything except fly around really slowly.

It's only now that I remember reading a whole load of forums continuously for about 6 months to work out how to play the previous ones.

I was disappointed, but not disappointed enough not to put 100+ hours in. I really do think they could have a smaller universe with more unique content and it would have been better for it. And dear god did they need so many different types of ammo? :D

Having a crack at rimworld. I haven't really engaged with a builder game since the days of Colonization, Civ and Sim City 2000/3000 so watching some helpful vidyas to help me with the complexity. Managed to get everyone settled in a nice roofed shelter, busy day building and planting and hauling then off to their little beds, emmiting zzz's. Took me an hour and a half to accomplish this but that was mainly learning the UI. I like the STL setting.

Rimworld's great. Don't forget to bury the raiders.

I've been trying to win Stone Soup again using one of the new classes in the recent update. Must have tried about thirty times. Got one to the last level of Zot but got cocky and went hunting in Pandemonium and was one shotted for my hubris.

I've been playing Against The Storm, which is a decent city builder/survival game. Played on gamepass but checked on steam and it's £24.99 which is a bargain, I'm bored now but got 130 hours play out of it.
It's not a sandbox city builder, you play through a series of settlements until you either win by gaining enough "reputation points" through completing orders and events and keeping your villagers happy, or lose because the Queen gets impatient with you not getting the settlement built up quickly enough. There's some variety in that it's a fantasy type setting and you have a random 3 out of 5 races, and the buildings you get vary but it's not a big enough difference to make games really different to each other.

Going to play Frostpunk 2 next (again on gamepass, I really liked the first one but wouldn't spend £37 on this, and I haven't checked to make sure my graphics card can handle it)

Balatro has been released on mobile. I like it, maybe not as much as everybody else seems to. Progress relies on you getting decent cards, which is fine but it's a bit random for me.

Approaching Infinity. Infinite random space roguelike. Elite but a roguelike. It's so up my street that it's basically in my house. I held off cos it was early access but it's essentially done, they're just messing about with a few bits.

The last few weeks…

PS5
Astro Bot - chipping away at this little beaut, clearing a couple of areas each time I fire it up.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor - gorgeous looking game, combat a bit meh though. Currently available to play with an EA Play sub.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape (Online co-op) - continues to impress.
Metaphor: ReFantazio Prologue Demo - really liked this and will no doubt grab the full game in a future sale.

PS VR2
Walkabout Mini Golf (Online co-op) - a few of us (VR2 and Q3 gamers) played the new Mars Garden courses and thoroughly enjoyed them. All base courses are available to play with a PS Plus Prem sub.
Pistol Whip - an oldie but a goodie. Available to play with a PS Plus Prem sub.

PS Portal
The Plucky Squire - an ingenious wee 2D/3D puzzle platformer, perfect for a handheld gaming device imo. Another great addition to the PS Plus Extra library.

Agree on the combat, and it's a bit fiddly in that setting it for challenging boss fights means undue effort in subduing crowds of trash and setting it so you can mow down crowds of trash (I am a fucking Jedi after all) means easy boss fights.

But the art direction is spot on. Both this and Fallen Order, someone who loves SW lore was involved in the art. Coruscant is magnificent.

I think I asked before but I’m really struggling to find a game to get into.
I kind of got bored of Zelda TOTK completed Hogwarts Legacy. Then went back to Zelda and there was tons more we hadn’t done and we completed it last week.

Now I’m bereft.

We like
LA Noire
Red Dead
Zelda BOTW and TOTK

We also love Mario but more the open world games like Galaxy.

I found Ghosts of Tsushima but then realised it’s only on PS. We have an Xbox One and a Switch.

I’ve looked at Assassins Creed but I’m not sure it’s for me. Maybe Elden Ring?

Any other ideas?

Tsushima is on PC, and as a PS4 game it doesn't require a ludicrous gaming rig to play well. But it would need an actual GPU of some sort, not integrated.

If your PC/laptop only has an iGPU, Tactical Breach Wizards is a good one that doesn't require any sort of horsepower to play.
(no xbox here, can't comment on that)

Elden Ring is an absolutely amazing game but it's quite different from the ones mentioned. If you haven't played a From Software game before it's quite hard to describe, there's a lot less narrative and characterisation and more combat though.

From the list you've given I'd say maybe try The Witcher 3. It's very much in the traditional fantasy sort of area which might not be your thing but it's hard to beat in terms of the depth of the stories and characters.

Have you got gamepass?

Cyberpunk is amazing.

There is a new Paper Mario game out An adventure that'll crease you up!

There's also a new Zelda game (I don't think it's like BOTW or TOTK).

If you like Red Dead then there are loads of games like that. There's a new God of War out. Dying Light is good (haven't played the 2nd one), Assassins Creed (best one is the pirate one, it asks you to air assassinate an Ocelot which is chef's kiss). Skyrim? Fallout?

Thanks but I’m not looking to play on anything but my existing consoles.
I can’t be arsed with PC gaming. 😊

Yeah I don’t fancy the new Zelda but maybe I should give it a chance.

Will have a look at the others.

Thanks.

I’ll have a look at that too, I did see The Witcher mentioned elsewhere.
