What are you playing at the moment?

Finished it today! I'm not very good but I loved it. Going to get 2 in early access.
I should really go back and finally finish the damned thing. I got distracted by other things and figured I'd already met my dad, but there's apparently all kinds of content after that.

Controller or M+KB?

Steam deck so I used the controller. I've finished the main story
is there more than that?

Edit: No idea what happened to the spoiler tags.
when your mum comes back with you

Last time I tried to play Civ 6 they asked me for all kinds of data collecting permissions so I turned it down and couldn't play it. That hardly seemed reasonable given that I've paid for the game.

Steamworld Heist 2. I love Steamworld games, but the city building one was a bit of a misstep. This is back to what they do best. Great little tactics game, improvement in every way on the original, which was already great. The main difference is that you can mix and match jobs now, so you can get some nice combos going. And it's really pretty, which always helps.

I've spent a lot of time here describing the actions and cogwheels of the game, and not so much the feelings it elicits. But that's maybe because the particular joy of SteamWorld games is so simple and pure. From a designer's standpoint, they are little metal marvels, proof of a long-practised craft. But from a player's perspective they are games where the pleasure is so plain to feel that I barely want to even discuss it. I don't have to explain why I like the feeling of a cat's fur, or the taste of chocolate. I don't feel a compulsion to examine why Lego feels satisfying to click together, or to discuss what is good about a sunny day. These things are simple totems of happiness. SteamWorld feels this way for me. The worst you can say of them is that they play safe. And yet a safe harbour is something every player of games can use.

This is a great summary of why these games are so good. If you haven't played this or Steamworld Dig 2 then you should play this and Steamworld Dig 2.

Been playing Black Myth Wokong' since launch, It's basically the story of Monkey, if you remember the 70's tv should that was based on the Chinese legend of Sun Wukong.

It's beautiful and pretty challenging, much like all souls like \ lite games, and there seems to be bosses around every corner. I think I've encountered 4 and I'm only at stage 2 of chapter 1.

I bought Arco. It's an RPG I guess but it is also a turn based bullet hell game, weirdly. It's set in a kind of central American world but slightly different with "newcomers" coming in and being bad to everybody.

You have a bow and sometimes you're fighting lizards and stuff, and other times you are fighting people with rifles and shotguns. As you can imagine the difference is quite stark.

Anyway it's really good.

Debating whether to finish Breath of the Wild before getting into Tears of the Kingdom, because I struggle to finish these types of games.

Also playing Elden Ring and have the same kind of problem, want to get to Shadow of the Eldtree, but that means actually finishing the base game, Im stupid hours in and only in the second region story wise

Ah, open worlds are a pain 😅

Finally getting round to playing Ghost of Tsushima now it's on PC. It really is a stunning game, I loved riding though beautiful landscapes on a horse when I played the Witcher 3 and it's got that in buckets and the combat is more fun. Love all the Japanese touches like the falling leaves etc and it looks great on widescreen.

DLSS seems to work quite nicely as well

Great game.
I'm back on Stray, always said I'd go back and play through and do more exploring.
Just nothing else that takes my fancy at the mo.

Come October I'll be giving myself a "new job" prezzie of a refurb PS5 then it will be

  • Still wakes the deep
  • Robocop
  • Pacific Drive
  • Ghostwire Tokyo
  • Cyberpunk

...and eventually, Atomfall

So wish I had a PC for that, looks right up my alley
It's good but it's a bit too "puzzle game" for me I think. You can rewind your turn any time you want, which kind of makes you want to get a perfect turn rather than just going with something. But I have only played a few hours of it so maybe it opens up a bit.

Just played through FAR: Lone Sails, which I had on my wishlist for ages but never bought then it showed up for free on Amazon Prime Gaming. Only takes about 4 hours, but it's a nice relaxing little side-scrolling pseudo-puzzle game in the vein of Limbo/Inside, with lovely graphics and music. Reminded me a bit of the slow walking parts of Death Stranding at times.

Arco is really good.

I worked out the system a bit and beat like 50 guards. I think you're supposed to surrender before you do that. :D

Nothing at all, broke the stick for my right controller on VR. Lost the left, replacements cost more than a second hand whole set its nonsense. I'm not paying £140 for controllers for one person.
