Water bills to rise by £86 EXTRA on average next year (2025) + more every year until at least 2030

Merry fecking Christmas.
Apparently they are going up by 36% on average over the next five years, here in the Southern Water area it's going up by 53%, the highest of them all, the OFWAT guy on Sky News sort of try to justify it, because Southern had asked for a 91%, so that's OK then.

And, these increases don't even include the usual inflation increases, so will actually go up even more.

The typical water bill will rise by an average of £86 from April for a year before easing, the industry regulator has said.
The steep rise is part of bill increases in England and Wales over the next five years to pay for supply upgrades and to reduce sewage discharges, Ofwat said.
The cost increases are higher than the regulator had proposed in July, but are lower than water companies had requested.
Water UK, the trade body for water firms, said the price increases would provide "much needed" investment for the sector.
Over the next five years, the average rise in bills will be £31 a year, but Ofwat said firms are expected to hike tariffs more in the first year.
However, the rises don't include inflation, which means actual bills are likely to be higher.

I don't understand how they can say that if Ofwat had given them the money they could have invested in infrastructure when they've paid millions in bonuses.

They had the money, they chose to line their own pockets.

Sod the bonuses, it's the dividends that are the issue with these thieves. All they have done since taking over as private companies is suck cash out as dividends, leaving none for investment or even routine maintenance, leading to repeated failures to supply water all around the country.

Plus clocking up massive debts to pay out those dividends, and us mugs get to pay the interest on that debt via our bills.
