Wales vs Portugal, European Championship semi-final, Weds 6 July, 8pm

Living here something that I've learned from this tournament is that it isn't only the English who hate Portugal. Dutch guy I lived with is even worse than me, Spanish of course, probably Iceland as well although I've never ever met someone from there, and now Poland also hate the diving, 'stop the game every 5 minutes cos they dropped a contact lens' bastards
I've detested them ever since that semi against France in 2000 where they spat their collective dummies after they'd gone out to that Zidane penalty. They haven't improved much by my (admittedly casual) observation since, not that Ronaldo is ever going to make a team more likeable in the first place.

Thing is, I really detest my side playing teams I hate in high stakes matches. Makes it all the more edgy because it's not just your own side's victory that has significance, it's meting it out on the oppo that's also important. As a result, the possibility of losing to said objects of loathing takes on extra significance and makes it all the more unbearable. I could have dealt with losing to Belgium; not so Portugal.

The worst one for me was the 2006 World Cup where they just stopped the game every 2 minutes because they knew that they'd lose unless they got to penalties.

Cheating spics ?

I was hoping that 'Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant' could be an anagram of 'Gareth Bale is a saint', but as ever with the Welsh language there just aren't enough vowels.

I'm breaking my 'no booze on school nights' rule for this and got 6 bottles of Abbot in the fridge.

I reckon Wales could well be the best supported team in the history of the tournament for this game. Nobody likes Portugal except the Portuguese and everyone loves an underdog.

No neutrals tonight. :D

I got 5 Red Stripe in for the game, I've just opened number 4  so was thinking of popping out for another 2 (or 4 at this rate) just before the start. I get up at 4:50am tho'.

Come on Wales!!!
Get another six in case of extra time and penalties.

Not so much as a Welsh great-grandmother in my family lineage, but I am somewhat fond of Ben Davies, Chris Gunter and that young Bale lad.

COME ON WALES!

When I was 12 the Welsh team did one of the occasional forays up North. A friendly against Uruguay. I begged and begged and begged my Dad to take me to Wrexham to see the game. He relented eventually. It pissed down all night. 0-0. My first international.
