Virgin Media - Crap/Not Crap

Got a date to have the business broadband "installed". I'm not sure why they need to come round. Pretty sure I can connect a modem/router. It will be going straight into modem only mode anyway.

It appears that BT is fibre from the pole - mine is the only copper cable left ...
Unfortunately I don't have a suitable wall to pass the fibre through - I've dry-lined (insulated) the bedroom and the downstairs will need the same treatment ...

I'm going to have to call Virgin and talk down the price and get them to fix my coax.
Yesterday I saw someone peeing behind the green cabinet up the road in broad daylight - I don't know whose it is ...:hmm:

I've had Virgin broadband since it was Telewest, hence my 'blueyonder' E-mail address.

Can't remember the last time it went down.

They are usually at least IP55 rated so you'd have to pee pretty powerfully to cause any issues inside it.

Will give it a week before either cancelling the disconnection or going with Vodafone who are quoting £21/month for the equivalent product.

Is it actually equivalent though? I mean I tell them I'll leave, but worry the alternative would be far worse.

That is a concern. If they can match what I pay now I'll stay out. Voda product is called Superfast 100.
Looking at this and the prce you are paying,

it looks like you're getting FTTC rather than FTTP before you sign anything please ask them what the' Point of sale speed is' that will tell you what your minimum guaranteed speed it, as more ofen as not it wont be the top speed the service ' can provide.

They came back with £22 which I have gone with. Saving money feels good :)

Oh ffs. I've just had the business broadband installed and went to put the supplied modem into bridge/modem mode so it runs on my network. Followed the instructions on their website and it's missing the option. Nobody who can help me on a Saturday with it either.

What I should have

What I have :(

Install chap just knocked on as he'd fogot something and I asked him. He think it's because I've got a static IP. Which makes little sense, because surely large sites aren't using these boxes to do everything?

Last week I changed bank accounts so wanted to amend my direct debit details. Logged onto the virginmedia site and it turns out you can't change your direct debit details after a bill has been produced and befopre the direct debit has been collected. That is, unless you make a payment for the outstanding amount. So i did, £57.34 to be exact. Then it allowed me to change my direct debit details over to the new account to be effective next month.

Got an email this morning to say my direct debit had failed and I still owed £57.34. Turns out any payments you make into the account don't alter what they ask for on direct debit. Yes of course it failed, I no longer have the bank account you fucking muppets, which is why I changed the details last week having paid the balance off beforehand.

Trying to sort it out has taken all morning on their whatsapp channel so far. Wankers.

Why on earth do they make you pay the balance on the account to change the direct debit details anyway? And then to just carry on as if nothing has changed. fuck me.

Oh dear. Still no internet at new house. I'm kicking myself, but basically they put the wrong address down and I didn't check the paperwork. As I told to them, this house has no cabling, but they thought there was and had to send someone out to check. Makes sense now when they had a different house. Tech said he could take it from next door, but his boss wouldn't let him. So it's going to have to come through the front garden.

Looks like that 150gb data allowance on my phone, that I thought I'd never use might come in quite handy.

Pretty :D
Getting a screaming 6 megs atm - deffo time to brave the helpdesk and talk my price down while I'm at it ...
Sadly I have no suitable wall for BT's fibre ...

Nearly switched to EE today as Virgin was going up to £37 then £45 next month. Managed to get it cheaper than I have now for £26 so signed in for another 18 months. Think the laws changing soon so they have to offer you their best new contract for customers? I have missed out this time but £26 is alright for something I use constantly every day.

Certainly pays to haggle!

My Zen price hasn’t changed for seven years, nor has the reliability or download speed. In fact it’s more reliable than my water supply which has been cut off twice and has a poor flow rate. I’ve no idea why some ISPs even have customers.

They'd definitely be my choice if I could get fiber to the premises. The thing with Virgin is the service for me has always been super solid and faster then what anyone else can offer. It's just dealing with the other bits.

Hm so when they did the price increase in January my wife called them up and got them to agree to keep the price the same as we were paying. We originally had an 18 month contract running Jan 21 - Jul 22, then on to a 30 day rolling contract we thought.

Now we need to disconnect, and they're saying we need to pay an early disconnection fee (over £200) as we have 9 months left of an 18 month contract agreed in January.

However they have no record of sending the contract, and are not able to access it. I've requested multiple times on the WhatsApp chat for them to send the current contract. They just send the Jan 21 - Jul 22. The last contract available in the online account is Jan 21 - Jul 22.

What are the chances that I'm going to pay this early disconnection fee 🤔

I’d call up, say you want to leave and be put through to the rententions team…… they’re normally a lot more knowledgeable generally

Yes I called them up beginning of the week, not sure if it was the retentions team I spoke to as they probably consider us beyond that (leaving the UK). But they were the ones who admitted they didn't send a new contract and didn't have access to a current one. When I asked them how they proposed to enforce this termination fee in that case, she said she could "only go by what was on her screen" (admission of defeat lol).

I've submitted a DSAR so I know what I'm working with, and a complaint in anticipation them levying the fee they have no contract for. But after my last normal payment I'm cancelling the DD.

How do I find a number to call them? I'm trying to find one in my account and its just constantly redirecting me to a page telling me to switch the router off and on again. Which like I tried first you fucking donuts. Am I missing something obvious?
