Virgin Media - Crap/Not Crap

It's certainly a hell of an impressive list of channels. If I watched more TV I might consider it, but we actually disconnected the virgin box as I'm so out the habit of channel surfing.

I'm assuming you need a hell of a VPN to make the most of a fast fibre connection. I used Surf Easy for a bit, but tbh it was shit.
ah is it not legal then? I was thinking about signing up for ace iptv

Hmm well strictly no no legal but like with Kodi they are only going for the service providers ,. The only worry about that if you have taken out a sub and they get taken offline you will lose it , the monthly option might be better

If you email them they will give you a 24 hours test account , also want to add , they have a good epg so you can see what's coming up , set reminders etc

AH i want to stay legit really

Only annoyances were:
the admin password has new minimum requirements meaning I use a slightly different password to what I used before, so I always type it wrong when I need to get into the settings and takes me 2 minutes to remember what character I changed!

same issue with wifi passwords. I change my SSID to one I've created so I don't have to go around every device and change the wifi details every time I change a router, except this time I had to go round and change the passwords as my last one was apparently not having enough numbers or capital letters.

If you do any port forwarding, enter the ports in lowest number first, otherwise you'll get errors when you try and add a lower number to what the current highest number is. Which annoyed the fuck out of me this weekend as I needed to forward a port temporarily which was lower than I had already had the max in for, so had to trash the lot and re-enter all my port forwards again.

Other than that, it's performance has been good. Like yourself I was nto full of confidence after reading numerous complaints on their forums and until I found the port forward hack, I was minutes away from buying a £200 TP-Link all singing and dancing router and put the SH3 into modem mode!

Pretty much any one of those for me would mean it goes back into modem mode. Mind you I've had SH1 and 2, neither stayed as a router for more than a couple of days. If nothing else the pathetic wifi coverage nixes them as anything other than a modem for me.

My Virgin connection failed (Bristol) around 8AM and is just coming back on now ... at least this time they are proactively fixing it rather than blaming my signal levels.

And it's faster. Couldn't get them down to £37 for 200mbs, but they did it for £40. Bizzarly keeping tv and phone made £3 cheaper.

What's actually far more exciting then the speed increase is that my upload has doubled. Just over a year ago I was living somewhere where watching a youtube video without it buffering was far from a certainty.

I'm now in envy of you, after having my speed increased the fastest I've got is 166Mbps, so a bit off the 200Mbps.

Upload seems the same as it was before as well! :hmm:

Have you tried using testmy.net? I've found that speedtest gets suspiciously good results. Testmy uses multiple random servers so I think gives a more accurate result. Last time I checked it was showing me 45mb when speedtest was showing 70mb, I'm supposed to be on 200mb now as well, I'll test when I get home.

I think that site maxs out at about ~90mb.
I can get a sustained 176mb download from usenet on my 150mb connection.

I've not revised my opinion of Virgin - they are utterly shite.

I'm in area 03 of Virgin, basically South London (you know, the best bit) about October last year I was getting endless DNS dropouts and having to smash refresh. The entire family was getting it.

Get onto Virgin and they send an engineer, fella arrives and happily tells me that area 03 is oversubscribed. When I asked him why they'd sent him it is on the off chance something my end is broken. It's a box connected to a cable - they can check the fucking thing remotely.

So I ring the 'help desk back' and ask why they didn't tell me the area was oversubscribed in the first place - the lying wankers pretend it 'was the system'

I've not been told that Virgin will be reviewing the problem November 2018 - yes NOVEMEBER 2018 utter utter cunts.

I'm now am waiting for Sky to spin up their dishless service which is due soon(tm) and I'm fucking off.

Don't use Virgin - they are shit.

PS: I'm pissed off because I've been trying to install a fucking driver and the connection is so unstable they can't download the 700k file without dropping out.

Which virgin router have you got?

Just seen my first individual torrent come at 10mbs. It would have been unimaginable starting a 30 gig download a few years ago when I was on rural broadband with an expectation of watching it late.

Above is his Speedtest on day one.

£49 a month for 1gig fibre up and down.

He just downloaded a 10gb torrent in 2 minutes and 30 second. Git.

Interesting. Virgin have been putting their prices up and I've noticed that connection drops during the day quite a lot (which is a pain if I'm on a video call at work). I'll have a look thanks.

Don't cover my bit of South London :( If anybody has any other wonder suppliers just let me know.
