Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)

It's a big issue for low paid workers who need their cars for work and can't afford to change cars to get a qualifying one.

they should explained the scrappage scheme to low income workers as the lead up to this has lead to almost all ulez complaint car at least doubling in price

Whats the cheapest you could by a ULEZ compliant for for now - a guess £5000. There are many many people that could not afford the £3000 to upgrade.
A colleague has a hot old and rare Renault, Megane 260. He reckons the value of his car is rocketing because it is ULEZ compliant.

A ULEZ compliant ... what?

LOads of cars under 5k are ULEZ compliant.

Changes list from low to high....https://www.carbase.co.uk/used/ulez-cars/
the changing price list did not link. But £3500 ish.

after 2005 when the euro 4 Petrol standards were adopted

even then at the lower end you be buying another car with a limited life span

How come used cars have gotten loads more expensive in the last few years ? ETA oh it’s covid & semi conductors whatever those are.

I CBA reading all this. Is the consensus then that most cars would be exempt. But vans from an older era may not be?

and any diesel post 2015 when they went to euro 6 woukd be compliant I think. I doubt you're going to be able to get a cheap second hand diesel that's only 7 years old.

I don't wish to tar all EV's with the same brush but read slightly damaged Tesla's are being written of due to not being able to get spares, thus forcing
up insurance premiums. Tesla's are not good for the environment if involved in a minor accident even.

<strikes bimble off the “useful for rebuilding after zombie apocalypse” list>
I’d be pretty rubbish yeah, can’t think of a single skill I have that would make me worth including in yr post apocalyptic tool-making gang of rugged survivors tbh. Can’t even remember jokes or identify which are the safe to eat mushrooms. :(

Can you play the lute?

my current car is petrol, registered 2008 and meets ULEZ (London ULEZ is based on what Euro level the engine is, not the tax class / band) - I got it about 5 years ago when the current ULEZ zone was pending (I live outside london, but mum-tat is close enough to the south circular for most of her local shops / doctor / hospital to be inside it)

auto trader used to put whether something was ULEZ compliant or not, and don't seem to now, but a very quick search for something similar got one (albeit lower spec, higher mileage and a bit tired looking) for a grand.

I've not looked at the scrappage scheme in detail, but think the previous one offered a discount off a brand new car - which in most cases still won't help someone who (by necessity rather than choice) is running a really old non-compliant car, as even with the discount they won't be able to afford a brand new car.

most it because people are buying less new cars because of upcoming cross over to electric, being skint , wait time for new cars up purchasing

oh and rich cunts getting into buying bangers for speculation purposes

Some people now have a few quid to invest and interest rates are low. Buying a house is out of their reach but a car might not be. Also, it's a way of having fun and excitement with the investment.

Nope.
High end cars have always been regarded as an investment so people are turning towards the lower end of the market to find bargains. This in turn pushes demand and prices up.
( Mine is not an investment, it's a thing of joy ).

my mother jag is a thing of joy to her a very low milage 2.2 diesel xf but 2012 so not worthless she is 62
my da loves his 2.2 cdti honda 2010 but he is 66 and just waiting for a knew replacement surgery and pondering retirement

both live about 6 miles inside the extend ulez and work outside

both of them would not be able to get a loan for a new car at this stage

bit of a shitty situation to find yourself in the current situation
