Tulse Hill news, chitter chatter and gossip

Interesting development at the site of the new housing development opposite the THH…

View attachment 377880

I’m not surprised, given that there’s been no construction taking place in the last seven months…
TFL can't have been best pleased about the bus stop closure either?

I was riding on the bus and a woman threw a fit that the driver wouldn't let her out there, but it's plainly unsafe.

Why they had to put the hoardings over the pavement in the first place is baffling. They're not building on the pavement.

That’s my local southbound bus stop, and it has been a massive pain in the arse for my OH to have it closed for so long now, and counting. Never mind people with mobility issues

The new houses on the gyratory don't seem to have sold yet despite the wonderful location with traffic whizzing past 24/7.

Maybe they paused construction opposite THH because costs are up and demand is down.

Thanks for that I saw that I was on the bus the other day but couldn't quite read it. There's also a sign on the bus stop, which I wonder whether it is of a similar vein.

If you look at the adverts, it looks altogether much more pleasant.

£650k is a lot for a 2 bed and it's probably one of the noisiest and most frantic stretches of road in the borough.

They look quite nice homes, but unless you have a large wedge of money for a deposit and a high income to pay the mortgage, completely unaffordable to most which is not fair for that location in Zone 3.

I see from Bell's twitter account there three dogs attacked a woman on Tuesday. She has serious injuries to her arm.

Location apparently being that little park near Upper Tulse Hill in St Martins

Yeah, quite. Gotta love the artist's impression vs reality... :D

I notice the large bus stand right outside two of the properties that is almost permanently occupied by off duty buses during daytime hours is mysteriously absent in the drawing. Fancy that...

A 2 bed "house", but it's stretching the definition of house because the layout is the same as a 2 bed maisonette.

3 bed houses are marketed at 850 which seems completely insane to someone who knows the area. You can get a nice 3 or 4 bed on a 150+ sq m plot for that money

God I saw the video on Twitter but could hardly watch as so horrible and hadn’t realised it was there.

It seems to be this park here. So worrying with so many kids around.

It might not be as bad nowadays with hybrid and electric, but diesel buses make a hell of a racket when they pull off. Or even when they start the engine and have to build pressure in their air brakes.

Air quality there must be terrible. Strange place to choose to buy an expensive house.
I think there was something in the planning conditions about the air quality which meant that the windows facing the street had to be unopenable for them to comply.

Come to think of it the artist's impression had balconies and those seem to have gone in the final build. Must get very hot in summer if they can't open any windows.

Oh right, palace road estate? Has anyone been prosecuted?

If you look on rightmove, the pictures from inside show a view out to the gyratory and part of the window has an opening section. Although those photos look almost like a cartoon.

I hate driving or walking along that stretch, I will never cycle it. It's so busy all the time, and the cars moving between the lanes slows things up. Emergency services need to use full sirens to get through. It's got HGVs going from West London do Dover. I just can't see any scenario where I'd want to live there. You'd need to offer me some very cheap rent.

Hmm, think that's the ground floor window? Doesn't look like the bedroom window opens, but maybe they found some way around the planning. I imagine the noise is pretty terrible so windows will stay shut most of the time anyway.

they haven’t found the owner yet as he ran off with the dogs which is pretty worrying!

fairly apparent that these breeds ( xl bully etc ) are permutations of the same thing, bred for 'aesthetics'... a couple of years back at the height of the covid dog boom people were dropping £3-5k on them with the aim of increasing their investment 5/6 fold thru breeding one or more litters. speaking to someone who knows, the breeding is still going on but the price has dropped as supply has risen, so now amateur breeders are not so fussy about who ends up buying them.

It’s St Martins Estate, other side of the Sth Circular. Seems like they haven’t found the owner yet as he ran off with the dogs which is pretty worrying!

The young woman who was attacked is probably lucky to be alive. If anyone knows who the owner of the animals is, they should report him (or her) to the authorities:

Abbots Park: Woman attacked by three dogs

Had a drink yesterday at Queen of the South. Seemed ok? Only the ground floor was open so it filled up pretty quickly by the time we left.

Food looked ok too. Everyone who was eating seemed happy at least.

I went there a few Fridays ago. Very loud, and menu very chicken heavy (I don't eat chicken) and expensive.
Not very accessible, lots of high stools and small high-level tables. The few lower tables they had were fixed so only very thin, agile people could sit on the other side. Difficult for my friend on crutches. We went to The Railway instead.

Is it noticeably more expensive than the Railway or THH then? I had a G&T during my only visit so far and whereas I don’t recall how much it was, it felt in line with what you’d expect.

Yes that is fair.

Not sure about the prices in QOS, but pubs in Tulse Hill should not be getting away away with charging the prices they do. Last time I was in The Railway the cheapest pint was £5.50, for something like Coors or Amstel, it's probably gone up again since. There is 4 or 5 pubs around Forest Hill and Sydenham where you can get a cheap lager for just over £3. All 3 areas are in Zone 3 with similar overheads.

It's the same in the Bread and Roses in Clapham which used to be a trade union owned pub.

Which are the £3 pubs?
