"He appeared to expect a police raid or court order. In the event, nothing happened. In Rosselson's words: "So much for subversive intentions." :D

Bernie Sanders Defends Campaigning For Anti-Abortion Rights Democrat

Ilyse Hogue, the president of abortion rights advocate NARAL Pro-Choice America, issued a statement blasting Sanders and Perez for spending time and resources campaigning alongside a Democrat who opposes abortion rights.

"The actions today by the DNC to embrace and support a candidate for office who will strip women – one of the most critical constituencies for the party – of our basic rights and freedom is not only disappointing, it is politically stupid," Hogue said. "Today's action makes this so-called 'fight back tour' look more like a throw-back tour for women and our rights." . . .

Sanders pushed back against the criticism. "The truth is that in some conservative states there will be candidates that are popular candidates who may not agree with me on every issue. I understand it. That's what politics is about," Sanders told NPR.

"If we are going to protect a woman's right to choose, at the end of the day we're going to need Democratic control over the House and the Senate, and state governments all over this nation," he said. "And we have got to appreciate where people come from, and do our best to fight for the pro-choice agenda. But I think you just can't exclude people who disagree with us on one issue."

Will We Abandon Women’s Rights in the Name of Progressive Politics?

. . . it’s hard not to feel that it’s because of the dedication of women, and particularly women of color, to the Democratic Party — where else are they going to go? — that party leaders feel freer to take them for granted and trade their fundamental rights in obsessive pursuit of the great white male. This is how Dems always imagine that they can make inroads in red states. It’s third-way centrist bullshit.

. . . the women doing the labor of organizing and protesting and campaigning, knocking on doors and making calls and sending postcards, while guys speak from the microphones about the need to compromise on their rights — is depressingly retro.

Although Sanders is standing firm in his backing of Mello, at least Tom Perez wised up that pissing off the very people who are doing the grunt work of the Democratic party (women, particularly women of colour) ain't a good idea and came out with a strong statement that reproductive rights will be a non negotiable for the party.

DNC chair Tom Perez said all Democratic candidates must support a woman’s right to choose.

The "Unity Tour" was destined to be a flop.

What about labour rights as a non negotiable issue for the party? The right as a centre left woman in Latin America not to be murdered by a right-wing death squad?

Funny what is negotiable and non negotiable.

He isn't even advocating restricting abortion now, yet you are fine with right-wing candidates who fight against single payer, labour rights, public schools etc right now. Your politics are both stupid and disgusting.

But Trump's slam of the Canadian dairy system is characterized by many in the state as misguided, because the real issue is broad overproduction.

Shane Sauer says his 120-head farm east of Madison and other such small operations have long been led to believe the market for milk was near endless.

"Processors have told us for quite a while that they want more milk," he said. "We were told we need to feed the world. So we were just trying to do our part."

Advances in technology allowed dairy farmers everywhere to produce more milk.

"We don't blame you," said Sauer said of Trump's comments about Canada. "We just want solutions."

Wisconsin alone has more milk cows than in all of Canada.

Amid a glut of milk, Wisconsin farmers say Canada not to blame

It's good that Mother kept politicians with a history of advocating restrictions on abortion at arms length, and kept them in lowly positions like Vice Presidential candidate.

Dear J Ed , I saw this and thought of you.
All This Russia Stuff

I think this article is sensible enough, and I agree entirely on the bots and their probable Russian origins. Worth noting also perhaps that the Clinton campaign itself had bots (and people posing as just another internet commentator but who were paid by Brock's Correct the Record campaign) which it used both during the primaries and the general election.

Comey Tried to Shield the F.B.I. From Politics. Then He Shaped an Election.

But with polls showing Mrs. Clinton holding a comfortable lead, Mr. Comey ended up plunging the F.B.I. into the molten center of a bitter election. Fearing the backlash that would come if it were revealed after the election that the F.B.I. had been investigating the next president and had kept it a secret, Mr. Comey sent a letter informing Congress that the case was reopened.

What he did not say was that the F.B.I. was also investigating the campaign of Donald J. Trump. Just weeks before, Mr. Comey had declined to answer a question from Congress about whether there was such an investigation. Only in March, long after the election, did Mr. Comey confirm that there was one.

. . . Mr. Comey’s approach to the two investigations, he handled them in starkly different ways. In the case of Mrs. Clinton, he rewrote the script, partly based on the F.B.I.’s expectation that she would win and fearing the bureau would be accused of helping her. In the case of Mr. Trump, he conducted the investigation by the book, with the F.B.I.’s traditional secrecy.

He can't be fucking all there to have said this. My late dad was awarded the Purple Heart for nearly having his arm shot off on Iwo Jima, and he'd have used the other one to slap anyone ignorant enough to say something so insensitive.

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump visited Walter Reed Medical Center on Saturday, where the President awarded the Purple Heart to a wounded soldier.

Trump presented the medal to Sgt. First Class Alvaro Barrientos and thanked him on behalf of himself and the first lady. Barrientos' wife, Tammy, was present for the short ceremony.
"When I heard about this, I wanted to do this myself," Trump said as he placed the Purple Heart on the soldier's lapel. "Congratulations. Tremendous."

The Purple Heart is awarded to American service members who are wounded or killed in combat. Barrientos was recently injured while serving in Afghanistan.

But of course . . .

At a rally in Ashburn, Virginia, in August 2016, the then-Republican presidential nominee said he was given a medal by a veteran backstage.

"I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier," Trump said. The comments were denounced as disrespectful to veterans. Trump has also received scrutiny over student and health deferments that kept him out of serving in Vietnam.

Edit: BTW, the traditional thing to say when presenting a Purple Heart is, "Thank you for your sacrifice," not fucking "congratulations" and definitely not "tremendous."

Where's the denunciation of Pelosi now then?

Nancy Pelosi: "Of course" you can be an anti-abortion Democrat

A transcript of an Oval Office interview Friday with President Donald Trump by AP White House Correspondent Julie Pace.

Deffo not all there, nope.

AP: Do you feel like you have changed the office of the presidency, how the presidency can be used to effect change?

TRUMP: I think the 100 days is, you know, it's an artificial barrier. It's not very meaningful. I think I've established amazing relationships that will be used the four or eight years, whatever period of time I'm here. I think for that I would be getting very high marks because I've established great relationships with countries, as President el-Sissi has shown and others have shown. Well, if you look at the president of China, people said they've never seen anything like what's going on right now. I really liked him a lot. I think he liked me. We have a great chemistry together....I've developed great relationships with all of these leaders. Nobody's written that. In fact, they said, "Oh, well, he's not treating them nicely," because on NATO, I want them to pay up. But I still get along with them great, and they will pay up. In fact, with the Italian prime minister yesterday, you saw, we were joking, "Come on, you have to pay up, you have to pay up." He'll pay.

TRUMP: I'm rebuilding the military. We have great people. We have great things in place. We have tremendous borders. I mention the F-35 because if I can save $725 million — look at that, that's a massive amount of money. And I'll save more as we make more planes. If I can save that on a small number of planes — Gen. (Jim) Mattis (the defense secretary) said, "I've never seen anything like this," because he had to sign the ultimate (unintelligible) ... He had to sign the ultimate, you know. He said, "I've never seen anything like this before, as long as I've been in the military." You know, that kind of cutting.

TRUMP: Well, first of all, the wall will cost much less than the numbers I'm seeing. I'm seeing numbers, I mean, this wall is not going to be that expensive.

AP: What do you think the estimate on it would be?

TRUMP: Oh I'm seeing numbers — $24 billion, I think I'll do it for $10 billion or less. That's not a lot of money relative to what we're talking about. If we stop 1 percent of the drugs from coming in — and we'll stop all of it. But if we stop 1 percent of the drugs because we have the wall — they're coming around in certain areas, but if you have a wall, they can't do it because it's a real wall. That's a tremendously good investment, 1 percent. The drugs pouring through on the southern border are unbelievable. We're becoming a drug culture, there's so much. And most of it's coming from the southern border. The wall will stop the drugs.

AP: If I could fit a couple of more topics. Jeff Sessions, your attorney general, is taking a tougher line suddenly on Julian Assange, saying that arresting him is a priority. You were supportive of what WikiLeaks was doing during the campaign with the release of the Clinton emails. Do you think that arresting Assange is a priority for the United States?

TRUMP: When Wikileaks came out ... never heard of Wikileaks, never heard of it. When Wikileaks came out, all I was just saying is, "Well, look at all this information here, this is pretty good stuff." You know, they tried to hack the Republican, the RNC, but we had good defenses. They didn't have defenses, which is pretty bad management. But we had good defenses, they tried to hack both of them. They weren't able to get through to Republicans. No, I found it very interesting when I read this stuff and I said, "Wow." It was just a figure of speech. I said, "Well, look at this. It's good reading."

AP: But that didn't mean that you supported what Assange is doing?

TRUMP: No, I don't support or unsupport. It was just information. They shouldn't have allowed it to get out. If they had the proper defensive devices on their internet, you know, equipment, they wouldn't even allow the FBI. How about this — they get hacked, and the FBI goes to see them, and they won't let the FBI see their server. But do you understand, nobody ever writes it. Why wouldn't (former Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John) Podesta and Hillary Clinton allow the FBI to see the server? They brought in another company that I hear is Ukrainian-based.

That is seriously (Unintelligible) bad.

It's quite a long interview, and consistently inconsistent and incoherent. If you put aside that the guy is President, and just read the transcript, it seems clear that the person has some kind of serious issue with cognitive function. Then you remember that he IS President, and think, "Holy Fuck, we're all doomed!"
