The stupidity of the anti-vaxx nutcases

I have a family member who went down that path long ago. I haven't seen them in a while and the thought of doing so makes me feel panicky. I heard yesterday that they (unsurprisingly) have chosen not to have the Covid vaccine. At least we have enough distance between us not to need to argue about it; doing so makes me feel sick.

This is how the Neanderthal 'could have' died out...a virus or some sort of human homosapian illness. Some crazy flu out break...

Parasites and pathogens
Another possibility is the spread among the Neanderthal population of pathogens or parasites carried by Homo sapiens. Neanderthals would have limited immunity to diseases they had not been exposed to, so diseases carried into Europe by Homo sapiens could have been particularly lethal to them....
Neanderthal extinction - Wikipedia
Considering our nature, I've always thought that we probably played a considerably more active part in wiping out the Neanderthals.

I do also find it funny how a lot of the anti vax people also take, you know, drugs. Drugs which they have not a fucking clue of the provenance of. So hypocritical
The antivaxxers that I know were all up in arms about the eu wanting food/health supplement manufacturers/sellers (I can't remember the details) to meet higher standards of testing a few years back too

They're natural, they don't need testing, the manufacturers are trustworthy etc

I think the testing was proposed because of a supplement found to contain amphetamines or something

Oh? Our nature? You honestly think that human nature in the UK in 2021 is human nature, that there's no change or variation by place or time or environment?

It's so weird to see how often "progressives" also turn out to be misanthropes. It seems to be contradictory to the notion that society can be improved.

Not at all. Its like Armageddon for the conservative Christians. Its always out there somewhere in the future, neither proved nor disproved. The correct combinations of signs and symbols haven't come up yet to achieve it, with just enough movement in the correct direction to give them hope that the time is coming.

"Keep away from people who've had the vaccine - they're dangerous."

Cult leaders telling their followers to keep away from people who aren't on the right path - it's an old, old technique to keep your flock onside. It's not dissimliar to an abusive relationship where the abuser keeps the abused party's friends and family away.

The funny thing is, with so many getting vaccinated, the anti-vaxxers will have to shield & ensure social distancing to avoid us all, and for long after the pandemic is over.

Yes, I wonder how that will pan out. Like with the ever-shifting timeline of the Armageddon calendar for the conservative Christians in the US (see Yuwipi Woman's post above), the cult-leader/grifters will find some explanation like "the effects are there, you just can't see them yet", or the focus will be back on aeroplance contrails or whatever else. I just hope that there'll be more than a few believers that'll realise it's bollocks.
