A long term ISIS type state would not be much different internally to Saudi Arabia. The only thing is they would be aggressively looking to expand the "Khilafa" ever outwards, and they would be materially supporting violent actions in Western countries.

Reading the new Jessica Stein/Berger book at the moment. Not much in it that hasn't been covered by this thread or the links q but a lot of it into a single easily understood narrative. Would be interested what some of the more knowledgeable posters on here think. Even I've noticed few things that don't quite ring true. The defence of Kobane beng down to the Peshmerga for one. The focus is on ISIS and Jihadis rather than other groups opposing them though. I also thought they may have misinterpreted Atran as well. Also riddled with errors that is probably a result of poor editing/proof reading as a result of wanting to get it on the shelf quickly.

very stange story this as it appears Omar has been dead for almost two years but the taliban/al Qaeda were pretending he was alive and recently issued a statement in his name

I think at least part of the reason that they have been reticent in announcing his death is that it means people are now free to switch their allegiance should they wish.

I think Daoud Kuttab is mostly being gloomy in a very Palestinian way. "They're going to go on bombing Daesh - then they're going to fuck off and leave us with a mess as they always do." This bit is the hinge his argument:

Some possible good news: Boko Harams leader Shekau has not appeared in a new video release which is fuelling speculation he is in hiding or maybe even dead!

He hasn't been in any videos since they joined ISIS and changed their name to Wilayat Gharb Ifriqqiya. According to the thing I listened to today Baghdadi also had another pledge of allegiance from a group in Mali but didn't acknowledge that cos he wanted them to work with BH who he views as more important. Hopefully Shekau is dead because he is an absolute piece of scum.
