Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary: British jihadist 'deserts Isis in Syria and goes on the run in Turkey'

I particularly liked this bit:

Last October, the family of Muhammad Mehdi Hassan, who died fighting for Isis, blamed the Government for making it too difficult for Britons to return home.

The 20-year-old was said to be desperate to escape Syria, but was scared of repercussions in his home city of Portsmouth. His family said Hassan, and other fighters, would return to their homes if the threat of being jailed wasn’t hanging over them.

My heart bleeds for the poor souls.

if you listen carefully, you'll hear a sad tune played on the worlds smallest violin....

I'm not convinced any of these 'desperate to return' types aren't plucking the heartstrings and hoping to commit atrocities back here. Why would Hassan still have been fighting for ISIS at the point of his death if he wanted to return to a quiet life in the land of the infidel so much?

Nah thats bullshit, pose with a severed head and come back and be used as an anti extremist poster child and not have to face the consequences of their actions??

“The people we have been talking to want to quit, but feel trapped because all the Government is talking about is locking them up for 30 years,” he said at the time.

“The people who want to change their minds could become very powerful spokesmen who could show the difference between the reality on the ground and the propaganda Isis is putting out.”

Liberal bollocks.

absolutely, and even if its true that they've become disenchanted with the standard of accommodation on their murder/rape holiday, that doesn't make them any less of a zealous loon, or make any of the crimes they committed while part of IS any less serious.

i think its pretty difficult for anyone to put forward a logical case that anyone joining IS in the last 18 months (or so) hasn't been entirely aware of exactly what they were joining, and so this is about as clear case of making your bed, and having to lie in it, that i can think of...

It's also clear that they see our namby pamby respect for human life as a weakness and are happy to exploit that.

And even if they have become disillusioned with ISIS they have almost certainly raped, tortured and beheaded people and would probably carry on being dangerous criminals here even if they no longer believe in its ideology.

If I had my way they would not be allowed back here ever. Let them swan around in Turkey for the rest of their miserable lives.

Just one other thing - judging by the comments on that Indy link, there is a hell of a lot of Islamophobia out there.

Given how that kind of talk plays to ISIS's aims, I wonder how much of this is actually being stoked by Jihadi types.

Almost certainly some (but not all) of it, look at the hasbara thread for examples of when israeli propagandists have done it.

Yeah, I know of comparable examples. I guess it would be hard to verify without delving into some pretty nasty corners of the internet.

Neo nazis do it a lot, writing into newspapers/commenting online pretending to be jews etc.

Tories pretending to be human etc. etc...

i think you're onto something mate, there's a lot of comments i've looked at on these sort of stories that i've looked at and gone WTF? there was one saying that instead of destroying it ISIS should be 'welcomed, nurtured and sustained' as it is 'the true face of islam' and all muslims should be sent to iraq and syria with a view to eventually 'wipe this faith from the earth'

There are obviously breivikites etc who hold such views but they're unlikely to put them in such terms are they?

That and stuff like: "100% muslims particularly youngsters support ISIS a small section though condemn their atrocities. 100% muslims want a caliphate. 100% muslims consider non muslims as non believers and they would shed tears if they are killed by muslims with a view to subdue the non muslmims. 100% muslims want the whole world to become followers of Islam".

yep i'd say that's pretty transparent.

there's a lot of "ISIS are the true muslims" stuff out there which is probably just islamophobic crap, but some of it almost certainly isn't.

Wouldn't surprise me to see more of comments along these lines now the screw has tightened on their ability to recruit more "openly".

the burgers may be better. the buns are worse. and the ketchup's unspeakable. but if you want a beer to go with that you're fucked.

There's a report on the al masdar site of some young guy dying of rabies in their caliphate in Raqqa after being bitten by a dog . Went to what passes for a hospital but there's fuck all vaccines now . And apparently there's big packs of dogs wandering about everywhere . Which may be linked to the dead bodies the bastards are dumping everywhere . Combined with the fact all those fleeing for safety are unlikely to bring the dog with them .

Well in fairness they'd kill him if he refused . And just because he fell out with IS doesn't mean he fell out with the other AQ factions . Fuck him .

Come on. We've all been on holiday, enjoyed ourselves immensely and then been torn between the draw of home and the joys of a bit of escapism in the sun as our return date approaches. What goes on jihad stays on jihad. I'm sure we can draw a line under the beheadings, summary shootings and enslavement and rape of children, especially as we can harness these young men's unique voices to prevent others following the same, silly path

Yeah who hasn't gone for a stag weekend in Amsterdam and woken up beheading the infidel.

three squares a day in belmarsh has got to be better than what will happen if the USAF drop in or any of the ground factions get hold of you.
