The Generic Tennis Thread

I think you're right - very hard for Novax to turn it around now.

Alcaraz is absolutely incandescent today! Obviously wants to get it done and relax a bit before the football :D
A sudden, uncharacteristic attack of nerves there though...is there a Serbian shaman up in the stands somewhere?

Feels like a changing of the guard for sure. The break to get Djokovic back into it was something of a nervy donation, then Djokovic was pretty flat in the tie breaker. It was always his strength that he raised his game a level when it mattered most. Not today. He needed Alcaraz to crack in that third set.

I genuinely thought (feared) that if Djoko had nicked the third set he might have gone on to win the match, though that was my biased fatalistic nature I guess.

Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz have been knocked out of the Paris Olympic doubles after their defeat against Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram in the quarterfinal.

Can’t remember if I have asked this before, but I have noticed a few times (yet not always) when Alcaraz plays in Paris, the ball kids have stood very close to him when he’s selecting which balls to play:

I have never before seen that. Invariably the ball kids wait to receive the rejected balls from the serving player from the back of the court. I have even asked a tennis coach friend and he is as puzzled as I am. Does anyone know why?

Amazing Djokovic performance, and no more than he deserves.

That was a great match, worthy of an Olympic final. Novak's experience proved to be the difference as he played two outstanding tiebreaks to win the match. Novak got his gold and Alcaraz will get his at another time.

US Open kicked off, my favourite Harriet Dart won comfortably 6-1, 6-2. She's never gone beyond the 2nd round though so next match will be tough.

Kostyuk will be very tough but I rate Harriet - you never know.

Emma Raducanu has a tough match tonight against fellow one-time slam champion Sonia Kenin.

Evans somehow taking the lead (after being 4-0 down in the fifth) in what's now the longest match in US Open history.

And wins it! Six games on the trot

What have I just seen? From 4 - 0 down in the final set. Evans hasn't been good this season - this is unbelievable stuff!

I think it's exclusive to Sky Sports but may be wrong.

Great stuff from Evans but unfortunately Emma lost, was tough match though. Lost in 3 sets to former slam winner Sofia Kenin.

Where can I watch this?
You can get Now TV for a month, which has access to Sky Sports. (See if they're still doing a discount for the sports only package - I paid £20).

Be warned, it's crap! Two nights in a row it's cut off just at the end of an exciting match.

Afaik it's the only way to watch the US open here without getting Sky or using a dodgy streaming service.

I fully intend to cancel it once the US open is over - you can get Premier League but can't watch on TV unless you cast or your TV has the app, so wouldn't use Now TV the rest of the year.

In recent years you've been able to watch matches live on betting sites eg. Bet365 and Betfair, without even needing to bet on the matches (that might have changed though). There's no live games on at the moment so I can't be sure if they're still doing it, but I've just had a look and there's a ▶️ symbol next to the matches which usually denotes you can view them. In the past the coverage just shows the action without commentary, although for some big matches you get that too.

Edit: yes both those sites are showing live games if you have an account, and no bet necessary.

Not really surprising given her lack of top level match fitness, which I believe she's now acknowledged.

I used to have a Bet365 account just to watch the tennis sometimes. I had to deposit a tenner (I think) but after several years of not placing a bet they started sending me emails to say they'd close the account as there was 'no activity'. I had no interest in betting so the account got closed.
